I am positive that is what happened. I think that the Morgan from 1878S is worth close to $200.00 if I did my research correct. I don't understand why someone would have a coin worth more than $50.00 and not put it in the safe. I do understand though that B&M shop's get robbed now and then and homes get robbed as well but I put my $5.00 coins in my bolted to the floor safe. plus I have some heavy insurance on my collection. I just hope I never need it Gary

My sister worked in a 7-11 type place for awhile and used to collect quite a bit of stuff, older currency, silver coins, obsolete coins. The one thing that was common with all of the purchasers that spent these coins was that they were not buying slurpees or candy, but only cigarettes and beer. So when desperation sets in, you spend the stuff you have been holding onto.

No, David Kennedy was not a relation to those other Kennedy's from Chappaquiddick/Boston. He must have been a republican also, being that he served in the Nixon administration. You can read his wikipedia entry here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_M._Kennedy

That is awesome. At least they are ending up in the hands of someone who appreciates them. People will spend anything for their fix. I once worked in a little restaurant in one of the seedy parts of town. Between the winos, the ladies of the street and the little punk thieves there was what seemed like an endless supply. I have seen all kinds of stuff come in there, but was usually snagged up by the owner. Lucky him.

I wont go as far as saying he stole the collection (but wont take that scenario off the table either) but maybe someone close to him died and he was the next heir and is just spending their collection for what he wants (which in this case seems to be beer). I know in my area some of the alcoholics still live with their aging mothers and fathers and around here you see this kind of thing allot when their is a death in their immediate family

quote: Thank goodness for drunks spending someone's collection, lol.
I strongly disagree. When alcoholics steal valuable coins from their family members, and spend them at face on beer or ripple, it's really not funny, at least in my experience.

so anyone have any idea what these notes will go for? I am not into notes of any kinds. so I have no clue. she wants to sale them to get extra cash and I told her I would try to help but that I am limited in knowledge on bills. I tried to look up the San Fran bill but only found New York and I think Boston and WV. so what are they worth? Thanks all Gary

I went into a Bank of America and asked to go through the $2 notes they had and one teller said "I have this really strange one I am sending off to be destroyed." It was a crisp 1928. She said a teenager brings them in almost every week because they were his grandpas and stores won't take them so he trades them for 2 $1 bills. In brought it home, it was my husband's b'day. He was pleased. After that, the tellers saved them for me, I got 9 of them total over a few months!
