M_d_in_guy, I'll try explaining in my own words but I'm not usually very good at this: the Blakesley effect refers to the weakness on the opposite rim. When the planchet goes through the upset mill to raise its edge and create a rim (the size of the upset mill is slightly smaller than the diameter of the Type 1 planchet to do this), there is no metal to push from the part that got clipped away, so the opposite rim is weak. error-ref.com is a great website for finding out about errors. Here's one for curved clipped planchets: http://www.error-ref.com/_curved_clips_/

But back to you other questions.....is it worth selling ...YES. Does it need grading or certification....probably not. It is not that easy to find a 1985 clip of any kind. I think you would get $50 for this as is.....maybe even more.

You are also dealing with a different (i.e., not round) collar die. The photos are not good enough for me to really decipher what is here...

SlurExe, ty for that link and now I understand clips. So what my coin has is 2 clips and 3 Blakesly Effects on it.

Good close ups of the clipped areas but how are we supposed to see the Blakesley effect? When asking for help on clips right from the start you should post clear pics of both sides of the coin along with close ups of the area's in question. Check this quick link on the Blakesley effect and see what type of pics are needed in order to get the experts opinions. They can't comment on what they cant see. http://dniewcollectors.blogspot.ca/...-effect.html
