Learning curve. I just learned what a die clash is. Thanks junjun. So, is the clash mark on the coin a 'negative' since the dies stamped positives into the opposing dies?

Could be the lighting but the coin looks polished. All around the high points of the bust appears to have the luster removed. Scratches on the neck also

That was my first impression as well. I hope it was the lighting

Here are some more pictures of the obverse in question to help with determining grade and an original surface.

Definitely mint state. Strike is a bit weak but few marks. Luster looks pretty good. I'll say MS-62

What makes you think it's cleaned?

Hard to tell from the pictures with those color lighting, high AU - mid BU. The die clashes here are minor IMO for this one.

The nature of the luster on the obverse seems to look like what you get from polishing. I think it's just lighting, but the opinion is understandable.

The BU label used to indicate MS-63ish. I agree with the assessment. For the record, clashed Mercurys are not scarce.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the wide range of input. SsuperDdave pointed out that die clashes like this aren't a rarity. Assuming it to be in BU condition, what's it's value?

1943 is relatively a common date coin, value wise around $5 - $12 from AU - MS 63.
