All joking aside, I think I see another dot in the 1 of the date.
You would think another 1974 would exist out there with this much
deterioration to a die. Warty dime. Need close ups of the date
and the D please. Thanks in advance, no poll or 1974 RCM Year End
Report required Bellmaker, sorry couldn't resist.

If this was my ship I'd ring out the distress "BELL" ... --- ... ... --- ... ... --- ... ... --- ...
For those of you not familiar with ... --- ... For those of you who do not have the official 1905 Morse code manual that is SOS.
MY New Years Resolution is to now stay away from this dottiness and associated silliness. It consumes far to much of my expansive numismatic abilities that can and should be used to research subjects that help others in the hobby in a more constructive manner.

No need to apologise for being yourself SilverDon, humour is always welcomed.

Polls are a good 'tool' and if people don't like the poll, they always have the option to not participate (change the channel).

But not to worry, the next poll I do will come with parental guidance warnings.

I know they're just being clowns bellmaker. No offense taken. Here are the pictures requested. If more are needed, let me know and I will post them.

Very neat error coin amnight. Thanks for the close ups,
the date is altered, dots on the one and seven. Extra
metal all over this coin.

Thanks SilverDon. I assume that you are meaning the date was altered by a person? Which brings me to my next question. Can you explain how it was altered?

The 1 and 7 have extra metal, so this is likely due to the same Die Deterioration that caused the dots.
The 9 looks to be a bit dinged up, PMD. The dots, I attribute to the striking and a bad pitted die,
the coin has wear of 40 years as a circulated coin, but the extra metal was there since striking.
IMHO, not an error expert in any way.

Forgive my ignorance on the subject, but I thought all of the "dot" coins were minted in late 1936 to represent the new king? I thought they were only run on 1936 coins and only in a few denominations. Are all of these references to "dot" coins just die chips of varying degrees, or did the RCM actually produce more "dot" coins past 1937?

thank you. So pretty much everything out there with the exception of the 1936 series are in fact die chips? Folks just adopted the term "dot" to attract attention to it since the real dot is a true rarity? Interesting. Thanks again for the info and the link.

amnight, could you please provide a picture of the obverse.

tights24, there are dots on Canadian coins past 1936 that are not considered to be the result of die chips.

The 1943 5 cent would be a good example.

This is amnights' thread and I do not wish to see it fall away into the 'censorship abyss', so I will refrain from sharing any further examples.
