It's Chinese with some random characters thrown in. I tried running it through Google translate but it came out as gibberish. Maybe wait for someone who can actually read those words.

Do you use McAfee?

Forum discussions have pointed to McAfee SiteAdvisor extension causing the problem, but a few said even disabling/removing McAfee did not help.

Whatever the problem, you are not alone.

It's the Chinese counterfeiters getting back at the CCF members who are coming down on them hard.

Uninstall and reinstall Firefox. To heck with troubleshooting. Don't install anything alse - toolbars, etc. Save your settings when it asks if you want to.

And lose McAfee if you're paying for it. A combination of AVG or Antivir plus Malwarebytes Antimalware, both free, is as good as anything paid on the market. McAfee is prone to false positives which are infuriating.

There's a remote chance it's the monitor itself. I'm going to steal your pic and see if I can get it translated.

John1,
It looks like you have a character mapping software installed. These types of programs will allow you to write in another language using a keyboard that has an alphabet. The reason that the characters do not make sense is because they are predictive results (like on the smart phone), based off what you already typed in.

Now how you got it installed, either as a Firefox extension or as a full blown program (leaning towards the second because of the overlay), I have no clue.

About the language, it's Chinese (I can read the language). The characters don't mean anything important. When you open the script of a computer program or game, you will see these characters all over the place. I don't know much about computers, but I know it might a problem of the browser interpreting some of the website design codes into shapes.

Preliminary indications are that it might be a glitch in the ad feed software, which we've had problems with in the past as well. Hold off on action; right now we think it isn't you. Mention it here if you see it again.

How slow is the connection - when FireFox starts rendering the page before all the information is downloaded, it can generate some pretty wild preliminary pages (all browsers do this).

Also, you can try grabbing the portable version of FireFox (nothing to install, just unzip and run) and see if it has the same issue. If so, then start looking at items installed on the computer, vs. FireFox toolbars et al.

The day I posted the first post about it.

My internet speed is 4mbs but the pages load fast. This thing only happens on CCF when I use FF. I uninstalled/reinstalled FF the other day and so all is good.

In that case John, I believe it was also due to the rogue ad on Google's network. We serve enough ads that I have dedicated email support and they are looking for the ad right now. I will not change back from all text ads until they let me know it's ok.
