Bait and switch. It used to be, advertise/offer a product at a sale price and then run out fast, no stock, and offer expensive alternative, now that the customer is in the store, maybe a sale.

Quote: The Mint did not offer any of the scarcer copper plated steel coins to collectors. Quote:It appears as if Silvertowne would like the buyer to believe that these plastic rolls are the same as those sold by the RCM. I believe it is a bit of a bait and switch. Get the buyer excited about the story and offer an inferior product. No I think they are just trying to peddle the "Scarcer" copper plated steel cores 2012 pennies.... While they maybe Scarcer then the other type they are by no means "scarce" But ya whatever works to sell something.... I will quote" "Sell Me This Pen" anyone here know who said it?

Who was -"The Wolf of Wall Street", Alex.
I haven't seen it.
There are a tonne of knock off rolls out there.
Going with the metric tonne.
Just wondering Northerncoins, are all of the 20,000 rolls the zinc variety? Because there are a lot of the steel rolls around. No-one would open the roll to check zinc or steel. Does it say on the sales description whether zinc or steel?

So who produced these mocked up hologram stickered rolls? Sivertowne, CC&C or someone else? I found this statement interesting. Quote: it is believed that most of the 2012 mintage remained unissued and was melted down Believed by whom? It's also widely believed that Elvis lives in Tweed Ontario, that aliens run the world, that the Earth is flat, that Dez Bryant actually caught the ball and that the Leafs will one day win the Cup. Doesn't mean any of that is true.

Actually the Leafs won the Stanley Cup in 1967 - Canada's Centennial year. Canada's 150th is coming up in a couple of years so who knows - maybe it will be the Leafs turn again. I've since become a Flames fan but their chances might not be much more likely either.

Quote: No-one would open the roll to check zinc or steel. Does it say on the sales description whether zinc or steel? I had a post, where opening that roll, with the pictures of the process. Well, it only one from 20.000 , but all the coins in it were non magnetic. And no hidden dime or 2013 penny.

No need to open the roll to see if a magnet will stick to it. But... Quote: had a post, where opening that roll, with the pictures of the process https://goccf.com/t/144882#144882

I believe that all of the (surviving) 20k rolls are zinc but can't cite any reference on that right now.
I think it stems from the Mint using the steel blanks early in 2012 and then switching in about Feb to the zinc blanks until the final coin was minted on May 4th. So the last several million including the 20k rolls and likely a higher percentage of the total mintage for the year are zinc.
That said, and totally anecdotal, I found 6 2012 coins in change. Four are zinc and 2 are steel.

I just looked at the mintage numbers in charlton(2014) and if its correct there were 88m zinc and 111m steel made for 2012. 2011 mintages were 3 times 2012 with over 300m zinc and 300m steel.

Yep but the actual numbers will be much lower since they destroyed a lot that were out in circulation and what have you , who knows what the real numbers are but still in the millions so none are rare or scarce , but any good sales person can make them seem scarce and something you cant live without... Sell me this Pen...
