zx, I don't think those lines are the result of a cleaning rather they are striations from die polishing.

PCGS graded it at AU-58 (quite a while ago now)! Sounds like that's about right or maybe a little low. Do you think this one is worth sending in again?

No, do not send it in again as you would be wasting your money on a regrade. It is still solid AU with minor signs of circulation that won't go away. The only thing you might do to enhance its value is to get it CAC stickered.

Assuming we are allowed to discuss $ amounts (correct me if I'm wrong), if this was a coin I ended up deciding to sell on ebay, what would be a selling price I could feel OK about. I see $2630 as a retail price on Numismedia. Approximately how much lower would the grey sheet price be? Thanks for the help. I'm not sure which of my inherited coins I'm keeping and whether I will go through an auction house, but just trying to get an idea.

I've seen $1 Libs like that which are in low MS holders. The fact that it is a desirable mint might help it at a TPG. Not an eBayer but I'd be really hesitant to sell something of that value on ebay. The buyer could say that they received an empty box and it could be difficult to refute to ebay's satisfaction.

I'm thinking I will take your advice and go through an auction house for the more valuable coins we decide to sell from my father's inherited collection. Is there a consensus on what value is low enough that it is reasonable for me to sell myself through ebay, and what value is high enough that it makes financial sense to go through an auction house?

I'd say anything under $400-500 can probably go to ebay if you feel up the burden of selling on your own but the more expensive stuff should either go to Heritage or Great Collections in my opinion. Perhaps you could start another thread and get some additional opinions on this topic since I don't want to steer you wrong.

Wow! You don't see that little C very often. Great coin.

Looks like a nice AU-58 coin to me, perhaps a low mint-state by today's standards. The 1851-C dollar is by far the most common in terms of Charlotte mint dollars, but that's all relative when you consider the multiple thousands of Philly examples.
