The seller claimed the coins were metal detecting finds but not all look it. Maybe this one does? Maybe some were dug while others not or some were not finds at all.

F-15 environmental damage. Probably was buried for a long time.

How on earth do you guys come up with VF? I was always taught that to be VF the line under the word Liberty must be clear and distinct. Granted this was 30 years ago but come on. No way this is a VF details in my book.

Celticsoul...I don't just look at one feature to determine grade. I look at the overall coin both obv and Rev. In this case half of the feathers show detail. The ribbon is seperated from hair. Dentils are strong. Face features and lettering are both defined well. On the reverse you have a full shield with at least half of the lines in place. Strong dentils and detail and seperation on the highest leaves. All of these items override one line under the headbands Imo. If this coin had just some type of diamond showing I would even go as high as XF40

I still give it F-15. My opinion entirely.

I agree with VF Details knowing that it was dug up. Anyhow, whatever it is, it is now in my Whitman Book.

How are you coming up with Fine? I am just curious. I often see people that always come up with lower even significantly lower grades than even the PCGS Photo-grade displays. Good people to buy coins from though, they list a coin as Very Good that looks Very Fine.

Clearly, this coin is a former BU.
