I saw the pic you showed of a DD dime, it said,"notice how the device is rounded". That is absent here. Is that what is reduced?

Notice the difference in size/width of the normal mint marks for this year and the RPMs to compare with your mint mark size?  You might think, yours looks a lot like this? But the overall size of the mint mark is the same as a normal size one. I would hang onto for now. I checked the CONECA listings and it shows none like yours. Edited by coop

Yes, I will hang on to it. It does seem to be an "iffy" coin. I really appreciate your time and effort on this one, Coop. By the way, I got that close-up with my $200 camera. I raised the glass in my light box just enough to slide the mm under it. That enabled me to get the lense super close. My thanks to SsuperDdave for telling me that is important. Most of the coin is not under the glass, that way the lense is closer to the coin and still has light.

The light source is diffused just the way it should be for a circulated coin. Have tried a proof coin with that setup? You might need a little more diffuser on a BU/proof coin. But for a circulated coin it is just right. I would place some dark fabric on the wood in your light box. That would half remove glare and give your coins a nice background. (you could probably glue it on to the wood)

Coinmaster,if you have an ipad or smartphone try downloading 'ollo clip' then click on the macro setting-i think its a picture of a flower? Then with your loupe try taking pics see if that helps you...

Tip of the day: When taking micro photos, make sure to focus on the fields, not the tops of the devices. That way the image will not be blurred.
