Yeah, I'm sure it's a bunch of junk, but I've always wanted to try it out, plus I'll be getting over 30 coins to add to my small collection.
Price with S&H was $13.75.

You never know what you're going to get, but I wouldn't expect anything earth-shattering in there. It's the thrill of the hunt. I do the same thing with bulk lots of world coins. It's always fun just to see what you find. Let us know what you get out of there, I'm certainly curious. It's a shame you don't get the cigar box, though.  |

If I don't know what I'm getting exactly...I don't bid. It's very hit or miss with these kinda auctions and those people make a Ton of money. "We keep the cigar box, they are not included."  |

You can do well if you're careful about what you bid for. I picked up a lot for $30 about a month ago. It had over an ounce of silver including a 1937 Egyptian 20 piastres that more than covered the cost of the whole thing. The real trick is learning what to look for in an auction. Good luck!

If it turns out worth more than what you paid.....bonus
If you break even ....terrific
If they come in less than what you paid. So what. You took a shot. Just figure the difference as an entertainment expense. You could have spent money going out to dinner and a bad movie but instead you got to have some fun going through a bag of coins not knowing what to expect. Good Luck.

Personally I love these kinds of auctions, but I don't bid on them very often. Most of the coins will be the common ones you find in a dealer's scratch tray, but at least one or two will be something out of the ordinary. And, in the worst case, you're only paying 45 cents each.

maybe as someone who has purchased from ubid you can explain the system to me.
the auction page shows a start bid of 1.00 and an incremental bid of 1.00 does that mean that each bid is one dollar ?

There were 90 boxes available. As long as you're in between the 1st and 90th bidder, you can keep your bid the same. If you're near the bottom at #5 and 10 people bid, then you're knocked out. You can't re-bid the same bid, but at least $1.00 more. I think this is right. The thing that hurts the most is shipping, but their prices for the stuff ain't too bad.

So in the auction you bid on 66 people bid but not necessarily on the same box ?

Correct. There were 90 boxes, so I won one of those. I bid $3.00. In fact there were alot of bids of $3, but if someone bid higher you would haver to go $1 over that. Someone bid $10 near the end, which was unnecessary considering the bid before that was only $6 or $7. $3 was the lowest anyone paid, and some were knocked out of the bottom by a higher bid, but I was right in the middle of the pack, so I remained, and eventually won for $3. Of course some won for more $$$.
I'm not expecting a $1,000.00 coin to be in there, but it's all in good fun!

I had done this exact same deal a year ago before I found this board.
I had almost pitched my MS-70 cent in the trash when I noticed a wonderful hidden RPM! :D

for $3? lesson learned  If a seller can claim that they have 30 auctions and a few will contain gold or other high dollar items "yours could be the one!!" there is no way to see the outcome except people he knows that have bought from him that leave pos feedback stating so. It's all a wonderful elaborate hoax. Personally I think these types of auctions should be banned as there is no clear way of knowing what you are bidding on. Kinda like the "mystery boxes" |
