Toned coins just like Red and red Brown coins are subject to grade for values ,, even though nicely toned coins do have a particular group of follwers who will pay above grade value for them .
non date specific for the most part .

Ahhhh......some nice, original coins! Although not the type of toning that would command a premium, it does add character and originality to your coins.

I find the collectible toning you refer to beautiful. I also like to collect the red, black, and copper tones.

This has become a really neat thread. Cool coins! Here's a bizarre one, from 1999 and still in it's original gov't packaging. I purchased 2 mint sets that year and the coins started toning almost immediately (all but the pennies from the rims-in in a yellow/gold). The toning on the 2 pennies started from the centers and spread out, in a 60's kind of funkadelic way. I kinda like 'em. Image: 1999penny.jpg32.4 KB

There are a few that turned real dark that were called "Chocolate Cents." They are as dark as......Chocolate.
