Thanks for your input! I was thinking a little better than XF, but I wasn't sure. Here's another shot if that helps:

It may make it to AU-50-55 has a few contact marks.
Nice coin!

Thanks, it seemed like a great deal for a scarce variety (the re-engraved 1940)
I'm thinking now it could hold to AU 50, which Charlton lists for 3X I paid.

From the pictures the reverse of this coin seems in much better condition than the obverse.
The picture in my Standard Grading guide for AU shows hair detail in front of the ear and some markings on the band of the crown, which are absent in this coin so perhaps EF is more accurate.

I agree with bromac, EF at the most.

Thanks all! Even at EF, I'm still very happy, having only dropped $85 for this example.
Final Update--I now have the coin in hand, and while I can see all the hair detail, the crown band jewels aren't there, and there are enough other marks to make this XF45 at most. Thanks for all your insights--you were spot on!

No matter what you grade it--it is a very nice coin that would do well in my collection. Congratulations,

Thanks Olmanjon! I tend to take details to the nth degree...just a game I play that has paid off!
I like this coin a lot aside from the grading/value considerations. I may just start collecting NFL cents.

All Newfoundland coinage is fairly easy to collect, with small mintage, it is not that costly. You can easely collect the whole series of George V twenty-five cents. But then again its only TWO COINS.

Shafta, I saw that! Lol...I guess there wasn't a huge need for 25c pieces?

I guess I'm just a big dummy....I was expecting a coin with a football on it.

NFL = National Football League

Then again I'm just starting to collect Canadian small cents.

bmanofnbc, I was thinking the same thing. Now I'm thinking you work for NBC or something.

As far as the coin goes, is there doubling on the date?

brefos77-
In a way, yes...the date was re-engraved for this year.
Again, in terms of the grade...I have the coin now, and it might go as high as XF45

I do not work for NBC, to make a long story short my username is from back when everybody used AOL and all the names were used up.
