All of those are really odd. And as already stated, imagine trying to find a vending machine that will take them.

I have seen most of them and I have a set of the Transnistria pieces. (Supposedly those actually circulated so they are coins.) They aren;t the first plastic coins though, the 1913 Keeling Cocos pieces are.

Yeah, some of them are neat, but I'd be hard pressed to call them "coins" by any stretch of the imagination. Aside from the odd shapes and the fact they aren't actually meant to be spent, they are all made by specialty mints for countries that don't actually use them. Having said that, though, I still love my Fortuna Redux cylinder coin I got a couple of years ago (made by the Polish Mint for Niue Island and definitely not spendable): Pity it has gone down in value so much since I bought it...

I feel like I just looked at a Hard Rock Cafe pin collection (except for that cylinder coin).

They look like something you'd stick to your refrigerator. In fact I'd rather have a 'fridge magnet -- at least they do something useful.

They aren;t the first plastic coins though, the 1913 Keeling Cocos pieces are. I found this interesting and found this: "French Ivory: A plastic produced to simulate ivory. It was first produced by the Xylonite Company in 1866. Other names include Celluloid, Ivoride, Ivorine, Ivorite and Pyralin" XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX "What is neat about these tokens is that each token has been individually labelled. Most catalog mention that the token is made in ivory but the reality is it's made out of ivorine - plastic that imitates ivory" Numerous "ivorine" pieces on ebay for a lot of $$$$... http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUPER-RARE-...311267069387 ------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.ebay.com/itm/Keeling-Coc...069387&rt=nc Very interesting forsure!!

Quote: I feel like I just looked at a Hard Rock Cafe pin collection I can see that. One of my wife's cousins is a huge Disney pin collector (I do have a few myself). She has way more pins than I have coins! It is true. Anyway, many of those pins are made to look like coins. In fact, a lot of the regular Disney pins look more like coins than the coins shown above.

Very nice Keeling Cocas set. Is it yours? It is a VERY tough set to assemble, the 25C being the easiest piece to find. I've always like the Keeling coins. I have two complete sets (1913 "ivory", 1968 plastic, 1977 metal and the most recent metal issues) and part of a third set.

I can't imagine using these coins when you buy grocery or in the malls lol but I actually love them as a collection. These coins are unique and it's pretty enough to display in your room or in any part of your house.
