Great question edweather.
Looks like Mike reads the book more than us. My year is 2010.

It has always been one of the questions people ask. Just don't know why Whitman can't do more explaining about what is in their book.

Coin books often seem to be poorly edited. You'd think it would be easier with the compact, coherent subject matter of the US series, though.

That's just it they do explain it. Problem is most people just get the book for the pretty much useless prices and never bother to READ IT!

Frankly a lot of the reading in the beginning pretty dry imo. I don't even own one, and was at the local library reading this one. I've started reading it from the beginning several times and can't get past the first few pages. I dunno, maybe I'm not a purist . Anyway, hard not to read over the one short sentence on page 23 (and relate it to some place in the middle of the book,) especially if I hadn't ever gotten to the middle.

I agree there should be an easy to read key to using the mintage and price guides, which is what 90% of the book is anyway.

I agree, I rarely, if ever, use it for the prices. I like reading about the coins while my son is at LEGO Club

Much like another book that is often quoted, but seldom read.

Could the Red Book be better? Sure, but it can also be much, much worse. I think it is pretty darn good all things considered.

I actually read it cover to cover when I first bought one.

It's a lot like the left side of the screen on CCF. There's an absurd amount of information there.

You just need to look for it.

I went through the same thing a few years ago. I had read the book but I forgot a lot of what I read and I searched and searched for that information and just couldn't seem to find it.

There truly is a ton of information in that book and you really can't beat the price for a reference book.

I was just thinking, a PDF version of the Red Book would be nice. It would be a lot easier to search.

I really do agree; because I've decided to read the Deluxe Red Book I purchased.

I think a Red Book app would be helpful. You could use your phone to search for a coin instead of flipping through pages in an actual book.

Now that is a good idea. I am shocked Whitman does not have several apps yet.

The older editions of the Red Book were much better in presenting this sort of information where it was easily found near the front of the book.

Oddly enough not a lot of people complain to the right sources. Not that it would do much good but it is possible to write to the editors of Whitman Publishing about any concerns about any of their products. I think anyone would be amazed that they do not only listen but do attempt to correct or fix whatever is possible. Some time ago I wrote several letters to Whitman Publishing about many of the errors I found in the Red Book. They not only thanked me but sent me a free copy of one of their books on Silver Dollars. All errors I noted were also answered in a letter from them. Nothing to loose in trying to help making one of the most popular coin books on the market.
