Quote: insufficient to determine whether the coin has circulated or not. To throw out a grade number meaning your coin's worth is into 4 digits of Dollars is inappropriate and teaches the wrong lesson to those reading. Yeah I messed up. Sorry everyone. I couldn't see the pics well and I threw out a number. SOrry everyone. I am still learning and I should know that.

Looks AU-ish. Can't get any more specific with those pics.

You're a nice guy who demonstrates a learning curve and dedication, and the next person who does something like that - having read this - is gonna think I caressed you by comparison. Hi, I want to thank everyone for his (or her) reply regarding this this coin. There is a wealth of information in those replies and I appreciate all of you taking time to look at it.
I realize the coin is not worth a 4 digit number,it has been circulated,AND the angle at which the photo was taken is not the best in the world. I took it at that angle because it was not straight in the holder, and I did not want to take it out of the holder. This coin has been stored well over 10 years.I also realize that asking for a grade from a photo is not possible. I just wanted to know what others thought. Thanks again for all the informative replies. We also have an 1823,an1826and several others.

I took some more photos of the 1832Bust half. Hopefully they are much better.

I believe AcesKings has the Overton variety correct. Coinzip.proboards.com has this coin described as: Quote:The 1832 O-116, Rarity 3 The obverse was struck using Obverse Die 11. This was the last of two uses of the die. It was first used to strike the very scarce O-117. The reverse was struck using Reverse Die L. This was the first of two uses of the die. It would be next used to strike the O-120. (1) On the obverse, to quote the Overton book: "The 1 was first struck with a long serif and then re-punched with the short blunt type 1, as the serif clearly indicates. Also traces of this recutting show at the base and the right side." (2) "The arrowheads are crude and joined to themselves and the shafts above." (3) A in STATES is much higher at the base than the first T. Read more: http://coinzip.proboards.com/thread...xzz3YjitGBB4 The weakness (seen in the lack of hair highlights on the obverse and the lack of detail in the eagle's shield on the reverse) is, IMO, due to the previous usage of the obverse die and a late striking (toward the end of the die marriage) with the reverse die. However, the coin does show some porosity, and IMO, has seen some usage in our US commerce. (I can't determine luster from your pictures). That being said, this is a really nice coin and, IMO, would grade around an AU-50. And, as we all know, any Capped Bust half dollar is a GREAT one!

With there nice new images, and Overton and Heritage in front of me, I'm happy with O-116 for it. This one is R.3, rather scare and markedly so in higher grade. It pretty much doubles in value from XF to AU, and doubles again into Mint State. It's not known for a great reverse strike, especially on the shield. I looked at all of the Mint State examples at Heritage - of 1,997 1832's at Heritage, only 28 are O-116 and only 5 of those Mint State - and none of the Mint State examples had a full shield, not even the two MS64's. This one's pretty well-struck, as they go. I'm a little bothered by the surfaces, though. Collectorlady, take it out into bright sunlight and angle it back and forth. Be looking for the telltale hairlines of a brushing. Sunlight will usually expose that to the naked eye, or a low-power loupe. Don't worry if you see those hairlines over a small quadrant of one face; if there they'll likely cover the whole face and there will be no doubt in your mind. I don't see any telltale crud stuck in the tighter places, symptomatic of a cleaning, but the reverse is a bit bothersome. If they are not there, and the surfaces are adjudicated "original" by a TPG, I believe this one makes a strong argument for AU55. In a PCGS slab, that's a $400 coin. If judged "cleaned," probably $250

Quote: That's one "purdy" coin.... I checked the rules and it didn't say (that I could find) that I couldn't ask this question:

I ask as I'm crazy for this series!
Yes, but although I was born on Sunday, it wasn't last Sunday and what you're attempting to do is blatantly clear to me. Don't do it again.

With better pictures I have a feeling for AU50. There are a reasonable number of other bust halves out there for sale. Don't be in a rush, take your time and due diligence, before making a decision to buy the one that is right for you.

I am sorry, but I can't tell you whether I want to sell the coin or not because I really think it is against forum rules to ask or try to sell. I do appreciate your input though.
