So, are you sure it was not like that when you got it?

Well...actually, no I'm not sure 25-30 years ago I probably didn't know what to look for.

Now I'm thinking it's one of the $rare$ experimental color matching rings

If I ever dig it out, will post a photo.

That would be interesting.

Would be nice to see the old photo to be sure. Good luck with the hunt!

I don't have an old photo, sorry for the confusion.

I meant that if I dig out the coin from the safe, I'll take a current pic showing the greenish ring.

Oh, okay. Well, I suppose this will remain a mystery then.

Regardless, a photo would still be appreciated.

It was the result of a bad batch of insert rings that didn't have the UV stabilizer in it. That caused it to discolor. You don't see them very often, and it will not harm the coin. NGC had a similar problem with a batch of their inserts on the NGC 5 slabs that caused the white inserts to turn a yellow cream color.

Finally dug up my green ringed Peace dollars. There is a fourth one also, but not as green. Funny, it was a submission of 7 dollars, and the 4 Peace dollars' rings turned green, but not the 3 Morgans. There was another thread on this, but couldn't find it.

Nice looking Peace dollars. And interesting information on the green rings.

I like them.

Wonder why just the Peace dollars were affected? Interesting effect!

I like the contrast between the green and the coin. I would also like to know why only Peace dollars were affected...
