Oh yeah the only sets he has are 04,05, and 07 so apparently those are common years. I think my LCS guy said around $100 for the whole 1999 set. Lol $18 would be awesome for a 1999! But I am missing all the states but 2008 so far

I think this is an opportunity you will regret passing.

That may very well be true... I don't think I will ever be able to complete my 7070 ;P at least until I get caught up a little bit with the other types seeing as it is a pretty good deal..

Well, I have been working on my 7070 for over twenty years now. Five holes left. Definitely a marathon, not a sprint.

You will get there.

I agree with Jbuck.

Working on a 7070 can take many years. Even once you get it filled
you might want to upgrade coins , if you bought coins just to fill
holes.

Also do research on the coins you buy. Some coin you see in VG or fine
grades, they will look like a good deal. Take the time and research,
sometimes you can find that same coin in VF/XF for just a little more.

That is the biggest mistake I make. Because I like to fill those holes.

I agree and I guess I am not in a huge hurry (other than just my impatience ;P) to get too far in the 7070 since I would like nicer examples of the coins. I just figured saving for a more expensive coin now and then moving on to the other cheaper items would be a better idea since the more expensive coins seem to get more expensive the longer time goes on. But thanks all for the advice! Guess I need to be able to save for deals when they appear too.

It is not a bad strategy.

I really wish I could fill some of my key date holes with 1990s prices.

Bu with it in mind, you still need to pounce on the really good deals when the come up. This is one of them.

Ok so new development I have found a place that is selling a 1999 silver proof quarter set for $60... why is the first year so high and it seems based off ebay sold prices 60 is a pretty good deal?

If you want it for your collection, get it! Sounds like a decent deal to me! What shape are the coins in? (besides round !)

Well the picture I saw shows them still in the plastic case with some of that goldish toning. I am just wondering if the prices will go down eventually even more than they have already since I guess these first year quarters used to sell around $100 but now seems to be down in the $70-80 range.

Also keep in mind that the 1999 silver proof set was 9 coins.

True it wasn't until 2006 that they made the silver quarters separate? But this set I am looking at is just the quarters part. And those are the ones I have seen for 70-80.

Those are the last ones I need to finish my PDSSil set too. I'm going to have to bite the bullet and pick them up at some point...

2004 was the first year that the five coin silver quarter set was issued.

Ah 2004. Thanks jbuck for the correction. Anyways now the task is coming up with $60 to get the first set. It would be nice to get the most expensive ones out of the way early.. or maybe not if the prices keep going down. Who knows, since one cannot see the future. :P
