No big thing. Our government has been doing similar with our pay checks all the time.

I didn't even know Sci was still on demand. Hope I found the right episode they keep saying "demolition derby countdown" on it, episode 316, but the description doesn't match the one you posted. Did it have the tower of cards?

Seems this topic has been brought up numerous times:
If you are going to copy/paste my previous post, you could at least fix all of the links.

Anyway, thanks for doing it.

I meant to copy it when I first replied, but was so worried about the spoiler alert.

I finally watched it. Not sure why, I gained nothing from watching it that was any more enlightening that the pics already provided except it took 10k volts.

I am however left with more questions.. does the volume really remain the same? isn't this pretty much how the sandwich is made in the first place except with actual explosions rather than an explosion from the coil shorting out?

Also isn't this illegal due to the 2006 law for it to be done to nickels and cents? I am pretty sure a shield zilcoln would be just a pile of zinc mush after this cause the copper would peel away, but that isn't even shown. is there a link anyone has to the original "viral video" that this had its science tested on?

Not really, but the Zincolns were not minted with longevity in mind. Would be nice to see one go out with a bang instead of a whimper.

Aren't all coins made with longevity in mind? I have some nice CRH find from 1983 and they are zincolns just like the shields and over the 30 year lifespan a coin is said to have when I found them last year. Now the shield I really don't like and would like to see the idea go up in flames because it should be back on the nickel where they stole the idea from to put on the penny. I was jsut thinking that the sheilds are of much lesser quality than the memorials, yet this site shows the content of all zincolns to be the same and in the same way since 1982. So how are the 2009 and shields so much poorer than the 1980s pennies? Maybe this shrinking experiment would shed light on if something has change that nobody was informed of. or maybe, jsut maybe, the quality of some batches are not as up to spec as we would believe for some reason?

It is unfortunate that I totally disregarded the "shield" part when you said "I am pretty sure a shield zilcoln [sic] would be just a pile of zinc mush after this cause the copper would peel away."

To be clear, I want to see this experiment done with any Zincoln; that is, any cent made after late 1982. Any one, memorial or shield; I do not care which.

Is it the same guys that had the offer online to shrink coins someone mentioned a while back? Think that thread could be found and the location matched and maybe we can send some post-82 pennies to them to see the results?
