the P-zinc go for far beyond $50.. I believe its more like $600+ (think there were some on ebay that made it to 1500+). They are much more rare then 2006 no logo no P mag's, because there was only about 233,000 2006Ps minted.

I have: 2006 RCM/zinc 2006 RCM/steel 2006 no-RCM/zinc 2006 no-RCM/no-P/steel
I will consider my 2006 penny collection done when I finally buy a P/steel variant.
I expected that the P/zink was worthbway more than I offered, but understandably, sarcasim is often lost on forums.

Maybe I should crack open my 2006 mint roll before I pay big bucks for any more pennies though...

'06 & '03 were fun years for me! (speaking of which - I still need an 'old obverse' '03 loonie too!)

Towards the end of the cent there sure were a lot of composition variations!

Yes there sure were! At the time, the line that the RCM used was that the coin cores being used were purchased to keep the cost of manufacturing below 1c for the final minted coin. So when the price of zinc went up they went to steel cores and visa versa. From what I heard, it sounded like the facts were skewed by the government or the Bank of Canada(?) when the penny was canceled, to make the cost of manufacturing appear as though it was well above coin face value for several prior calendar years... I call BS. But yes, from '99 on, there were (for most years) at least two versions of the penny - and looking out for the variants in pocket change (as I did) was kinda fun :) I like the subtle differences that most people miss, so looking and looking for six years without success for a single 2006-P penny was fun... I think I even struggled to find either 2004-P or 2005-P (I cannot recall which one it was).

Thank you very much for the generous offer burg - but I already have that one. The only non-error variant that I am missing for 2006 is the "P" (steel) penny.
To recap in a slightly different manner, I have:
Early year: 2006 zinc 2006 steel (error; steel core penny was intended for early year "P" dies)
Later year: 2006 RCM-zinc 2006 RCM-steel
:)

there are officially four variants of the 2006 penny, additionally there are two "error" variants; official: 1) 2006 zinc (early calender year; no-P (aka: regular) variant denoting zinc core) 2) 2006P steel (early calender year; "P" variant denoting steel core) 3) 2006 RCM/zinc (mid(?) calendar year) 4) 2006 RCM/steel (mid(?) calendar year) Somewhere around mid-year (someone here probably knows the actual changeover date) the RCM logo dies were phased in, and superceded the "regular" and "P" obverse dies used from 2003-2006 (the same was done on a more limited basis for 1999-2003 but with the older obverse). unofficial/error: 1) 2006 'regular' steel core; came about when the steel cores intended for the "P" dies were used on the "regular" dies intended for zinc core coins. 2) 2006 "P" zinc core; came about when the zinc cores intended for the "regular" dies were used in the "P" dies intended for steel core coins.
