AU-53 was my first thought also.

Strong AU 50, but it has so very few marks that this "grade" does not take that into consideration. Also, the fields are surprisingly unharmed and the color is smooth but does not appear to have been cleaned.
Unless you were going to MS grades I doubt you could find a nicer LC of this date.

Very nice. Obverse AU50. Reverse 53. Could go either way. I'll go with the obverse AU50

Thanks for all of the grade opinions. I am looking forward to getting this one in hand, so I can take some better pictures of it.

Looking forward to seeing some better photos of this one. Nice looking large cent you picked up here. My grade from these photos is AU53.

1. Dot underneath eye (obverse) 2. 1 in 1856 embedded in bust 3. Reverse rim defect from approx. 12:00 to 1:00
#2 applies to N-6 and N-7 but #1 and #3 are exclusive to N-6, if I recall correctly. It's a common variety (R2), but in later die stages the reverse goes downhill quick. Grellman attributed a TDS example with about 1/4 of the reverse gone (lamination peel from the rim break.)
