If the coin isn't fake then you most definitely made a good purchase. Nice job!

It does appear to be a genuine 1893 Morgan. The auction ended 10 days ago, do you have any in-hand images to share? Also, not sure how you could have been duped when it was not being sold as anything other than a 1893 Morgan?

IMHO, it's not a '93-S and likely not a genuine coin. To be a 93-S, there must be a dentil positioned squarely below the "1" in the date. That's not the case here.

There's one that looks identical on a website that's not allowed as a link. It has a BIN of $22,000 .... By Googling "1893, dollar, bolo" (without quotation marks), one can see a few identical pieces, including one that's in a Goodwill store. Also, ebay listings contain a number of bolo ties with admittedly "reproduction" Morgan dollars.

I know nothing about coin jewelry , why can't you take it to a reputable jeweler and have them remove the Morgan. then there will be no question.

It's not an 1893-S. The date position is wrong.(assuming the auction link posted is the same Bolo)

Here's a clear pic of the obverse:

1893-S-Morgan-Silver-Dollar-Is-This-The-Real-Deal

All 1893-S coins are Far Date. The left serif of the 1 is more than three full denticles from the point of the neck. This coin has what's considered a Normal Date, with the serif of the 1 2-1/2 denticles from the neck. Not sure what it is, but I'm absolutely positive it isn't an 1893-S Morgan.

The date looks too thick honestly.
Why not take it out of there?

I am HOPING you scored but I am highly skeptical in all honesty.

Not a 93s. That's for sure. And the date looking thick is probably from the minor polishing it received by the person / company who made the bolo to have it sparkle when it was set in the bezel.

It's most likely a coin reproduction insert and may not even have a reverse. There are numerous reproduction dollar bolos and other jewelry items on ebay and other online marketplaces ...

My first hunch was a counterfeit. I'll wait a little longer for updates before I say one way or another with any certainty.

I don't think you get something for nothing on a public auction site. If you found it in an old trunk at your great grandmother's house I might believe it.
