I won't hog this thread, but one more note - I have purchased three or four Lincoln Wheat cent lots of 500 coins or so and found some great bargains. So, despite the many questionable "Unsearched" Lincoln Wheat cent lots (wherein all the good coins have been culled), there are some honorable ebay sellers who either throw in some 'extras' or who really don't look at every single coin and are willing to let some goodies go by simply because they don't want to search them all and/or they are good people who know they're still making some profit. The best such find for me so far was an 1858 Flying Eagle (large letters) cent in at least EF-40 (I'm being conservative since I'm a newbie, and when I get my photo system setup, I'll solicit the experts' opinions ;-), which cost me 11 cents (FMV = $138).

I don't collect these, but I think this is a decent price for this coin. (Unless it is cleaned - I posted a question about that in the Main Coin Forum.) Auction on ebay, ends at 21:07 UTC tonight. Can't wait to see some posts of Seated dollars or pre-1933 US gold coins... LOL. Some good finds on here nonetheless!

Oh darn Finn! That is a fascinating design - I can see the attraction of Asian coins. :O) Osprey - I like how the seller of that 1854 Seated Liberty Half is honest about the coin - "1854 Seated Half VF details cleaned." Nice to see.

Just won these two: http://www.ebay.com/itm/JAPAN-JAPAN...=WON&trxId=0http://www.ebay.com/itm/JAPAN-JAPAN...=WON&trxId=0First lot has a few upgrades for my type set, but the real draw is both a number of old style 50 yen (typically sell for double face value for good specimens) and a heap of BU commemoratives. I count several "50 years of Showa reign" 100 yen (usually sell for $5+ each), a few Expo 100 yen ($2-4 each), and in the middle right of the first pic is a "60 years of Showa reign" 500 yen... I backed out of a listing when it hit $15. It is the same size as the 50 year commem, but has no English or Arabic numerals anywhere on the coin. Not bad for $1 over exchange rate! Second lot was 55 cents over exchange rate. Less popular coins that sell for $8-10 each, except for the Heisei enthronement 500 yen (top row, far right) that is usually a $15+ coin. Anybody else collect these? PM if you want the duplicates before they go to ebay. Seller also has a huge lot (11,500 yen) with some goodies that I am going to bid a little over face unless someone on here wants it. Oh, and best of all, I am earning 8% back on all of this thanks to an ebay promo!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Japan-Nd-18...010?nav=LOSTLowballed this one, figuring I would probably lose it. You can see from the similar listings that the average selling price for these is about $7-10 each. These are much lower quality, but they all have distortions on the side where the validation marks were placed, so they are all genuine. Some tedious work to list these individually should net this buyer at least $200 profit. I didn't bid above $200 because I didn't want to try to win this against an actual collector, and I have very little free time to be spending it taking pictures of 78 nearly identical coins to sell.

Massive lots of Japanese coins came in! The 500 yen lots were exactly what I expected. Filled a ton of holes and will be able to flip the rest for a very good % of the purchase price. Some beat up circulation pieces, but the commems are in great shape! But the "50/100" lot was the kicker. I was expecting a pocket change lot with some commemoratives mixed in. Nope, it was someone's old collection. Actual face value was 7500 yen, $19 over what I paid. Here's the breakdown 50 yen: solid run from 1955-1991, including the key date 1960 (NGC catalogs at $22.50 in XF). Mostly circulated with a couple gem BU 100 yen: almost solid run from 1967-1998. A few high grades, but mostly circulated Commemoratives: 100 Yen Expo '70 - 4 100 Yen Olympics '72 - 3 100 Yen 50 years reign '76 - 5 100 Yen Osaka expo '75 - 3 500 Yen 60 years reign '86 - 3 Standard ebay prices are $3-5 each for the 100 yen commemoratives, $10-15 for the 500 yen

Way to go Finn! -- ebay seller MacVanderstein usually has 1940s & 1950s Lincoln wheat cents, PCGS MS65 RD or MS66 RD, with BIN prices below FMV. Examples: 1953-D PCGS MS66 RD $22.00 (FMV = $30.00) 1954-P PCGS MS65 RD $15.00 (FMV = $25.20) 1955-S PCGS MS66 RC $22.00 (FMV = $27.50) Their auction prices are also good. I have bought a few coins from them and shipping has been fast; good packaging; good communication when I had a question. ~ Mark FMV = NumisMedia Fair Market Value (retail) http://www.coinprices.org/BIN = Buy It Now
