VF 20 or 25. Tons of eye appeal.

NGC had an optimistic VF-35 grade. You confirmed what I had figured: coin is overgraded. I bid very low because of this ($89) and won the coin anyway, much to my amazement. My "eyeball grade" was VF25-30 despite the slab! :) Maybe I am learning from CCF. All in all I think that's a solid win for the price I paid.

It has a full, sharp "Liberty". I think the 35 grade was corect.

I felt the strike too weak to be a solid VF35.

IHC's and FEC's tend to be all over the place from the "big 3" TPG's, as Snow noted. A raw coin in "strict" AU53 might come back anywhere from XF45 to AU58. If I had submitted this coin myself, it might have pulled a VF30. Big Dealer X submits it, now it's a VF35. Repeat with other TPG's and probably get anywhere from a 25 to a 35. I think 30 is a good average. When bidding on coins such as this, I usually set a max bid at least 1 grade lower than the slab grade, for precisely that reason, a sort of "overgrade insurance".

I also just guessed VF30 before I looked. Really nice addition to the collection.
