American taxpayer pays for something UGLY

Exept that the mint is self-sufficient and generates all the money it needs- they literally make money for less than the money costs them to make, and then exchange the coins for $$$ and make a profit. So, NO taxpayer's money is going into the mint.

I'd spend the coin.

http://www.lincolncentsonline.com/r...rieties.html
" Starting in 1989, the mint again changed the reverse design of the Lincoln Cent. Similar to what happened with 1992 Close AM varieties, a few of the 1988 and 1988-D cents were made with the reverse intended for the 1989 cent.

The best pick up point to identifying this variety is the designers initials FG ( Frank Gasparro) on the reverse side, next to the Lincoln memorial. You will need a magnifying glass or loupe to identify the differences between a normal 1988 cent and one with the reverse of the 1989."

Actually Child of the wheat ,your statement is incorrect. Every coin or any other type of money is directly or indirectly influenced by tax payer money.

When searching coins and I notice it damaged/discolored/split plating, I toss them without even giving the time to view them on my scope. They just aren't worth it.

I must say that this incorrect because they can't just print infinite money. Every cent minted can slightly devalue the dollar.

It is not a variety or error, it is simply a corroded and damaged coin.
