I have a business trip to China in a couple weeks. Anyone need me to swing by a market and pick up some keys for their collections? :P

I would like a 1909 S VDB for a paper weight In a serious note, I would like to have something fake to compare my coins to (I know that you are joking)

As far as the coin is concerned, If it is fake, it is much better than the ones on the no-no site. But considering that the seller only has fakes in his inventory, I say it is fake. I will say that the coin does look lifeless and dull for the grade, but it looks a lot better than most of the junk on the no-no site.

Dave said no to the sub-forum as well, as that most of these need to stay in these main sections and not be ignored in a sub-forum. Where's he been, anyways?
I'd love to become a moderator, however...haha!

The idea of a separate forum for reporting and discussion counterfeit discoveries is on the table again. The staff has been discussing it today, so stay tuned.

Rest assured though if it does happen, the topics will eventually end up in the correct forum, although probably locked. If a new collector comes across an 1885-CC Morgan and goes to the Classic US forum and searches, he needs to find all the info on 1885 CC counterfeits also, they can't be off in some other forum. That would just be silly to me.

I wish ebay were doing more to prevent these from popping up but I could only imagine how difficult that actually is. Trade dollar is one of the coins you really should buy slabbed regardless of grade IMO

Maybe duplicate the thread in a Counterfeit forum? That way, the info in the US Classic forum stays there and you have an easily-searchable counterfeit database.

We used to have a similar group on ebay many years ago called the CFDL - Coin Forgery Discussion List (it still exists) using Yahoo! Groups -- a bit more involved (they would dox the sellers, names, addresses, etc.) I was not a CFDL regular, but instead a member of CFE ebay Group - Coin Forgery ebay - smaller, but we forwarded a lot of stuff to CCW / T&S to try to get listings removed. CFE was invite-only, whereas CFDL was open. I think such a sub-forum would be useful here provided people avoid making statements that might expose CCF to liability.

Yes. You could save people a lot of money by taking down counterfeits before they're sold.
