It is a woody, but not a real one. The thin stripes are debatable in cause. They are most likely just roller stains. Very common from 1979 to 1982 for some reason.

Thank you.. I will have to keep an eye out for ones on the wheats so I can compare them. Either way, I like the look and will keep it..

Nice pics, Coop. My favorite is the 06 Canadian cent. That should have sold for a pretty penny.

Either way, it's a pretty penny. lol Actually, it's a gorgeous penny and a 1906. They probably wouldn't have wanted to pay my price for it.

Indeed! I never thought about coins like this before or knew people roll searched. But now I understand why, its additcting and you just never know what you might find..

I agree with biokemist & SilverStackerKid. While still defined as a "woody" yours is not am impropper alloy mix like others pictured. Rather from roller lines crated as the stock sheets were rolled and pressed to the proper thickness. Very common on late 70's / early 80's pre zinc lincolns. Thank you.. I will have to view that thread and if I do find a "true" woody I will be sure to post it. I have a few hundred Wheaties to go through from my box searches and maybe I will find one.. :)

I think that discussion was centered on the Memorial cents. The wheat cents are known for this poor mixture issue.

Addictive. LOL So true. I keep looking for more images. Not too long ago I had slightly less than 4,000 on my images host. I just checked today 4,578. But I love editing.

Yes, it was about recent coinage, Memorials and clad coinage. Everyone seems to agree on the Wheats.
