Just a hole in my collection, not a hole in the album.

j_h_s....I wonder if there's a technique for removing it while essentially doing no harm to the coin?

Prethen, I'm a nurse, maybe I could help. But who needs it most--you or the coin! Gussyboy1

I'm sure there is. Thanks to Wikipedia, solder melts at 361°F, gold melts at 1947°F.

So, I'd suggest putting it in the oven at 400°F and place some solder remover on top of the coin once it's hot.

That is so unbelievable. I was only planning on bidding on it up to $60. There are some interesting people out there.

I think $228 is too high considering what a lower grade proof sells for, but I was interested up to around the $100 level.
