Good Luck.

Hopefully in a few years we will see

Copper Castle Freight Line trucks

going down the interstate.

I like the way you think Bud!
Many companies offer leasing oppurtunities, but I would have to overcome my numismatic addictions first...which isn't likely to happen anytime soon.

Good luck to you! My father recently changed jobs from being a mechanic in a car dealership to working on a lot of heavy trucks and equipment so he had to get his CDL in the process. Make sure you get plenty of road time in a big rig with an experienced driver and make sure you know your pre-trip routine backwards and forwards before you take the test. From what he said the written portion was the easy part but the skills portion was more of a challenge.

Once training is completed & I'm on the road I have the potential to generate a 60% annual increase in salary! If I don't succeed, I will have lost my job security, health insurance & possibly my house. Risk vs. Reward.

Some 20 years ago I too had to make that change and boy did I make the right move.

I'm confident in my ability to succeed & don't plan on taking the plunge until March 1st. This gives me plenty of time to study the CDL manual & take practice exams (which I've already been doing the last 2 weeks).

It will not be easy but I have a strong feeling that you will achieve your goal.

My wife is leery about me being away from home for extended periods of time, but also excited at the possibility of owning our own home. My daughter is only 2 at the moment and I think now is a great time to get the 2 years of experience I need to eventually get a local dedicated job.

Your needed strengths and motivation.
Good luck, I hope it all works out for you!

Wishing you good luck is one thing. I do too.

I will issue you an instruction:
Make sure that you stay in contact with your family BY VOICE on your mobile, EVERY day while you are apart. Best time to communicate is after the evening meal.
The most important factor in the cohesiveness of a family is communication.
Your wife is left to make all of the executive family day to day decisions, rather than making shared decisions.

Your family is more important than your house.

CC-- good luck

You're living a dream I had a long time ago and never did. Too old now to do it so I'll root for you. I sincerely hope it exceeds your expectations! I'm green with envy but cannot wait to hear of your travels!

Lots of time away from home depending on the job, but kudos for following your dream and good luck.

You're a manager of a cinema? That's SWEET! So what do you get, free movies whenever? LOL.

I don't know if you work there currently or not as of now, but what do you guys do with the old movie posters and promotions and stuff? Straight to the dumpster? I've love to have some promotional posters for big movies.
Rest in Peace

I sincerely wish you luck. Talk to some truck drivers, maybe johntookit? Anyway, research what is the best company to get experience at, which company is best to work for, and the most employee considerate company.

It is NOT all excitement and glamour. There are long grueling hours behind the wheel. Vehicle maintenance, repair, and breakdowns. Yeah, the company has mechanics, but you'll be the boss at the incident.

Eventually look for a job spotting trailers in the company yard, or something that gets you home every night.

Also, you are entering a segment of society that has an alternative lifestyle, be prepared.

Anywho, I predict long distant truck drivers will be replaced by robots within the next twenty years.

All the free movies one could ever hope to watch....which juxtaposedly converts to me not watching all that many movies at all, LOL. I catch snippets here & there when doing quality checks but on my days off (which are few & inbetween)the last place I want to spend my free time is at @ work, Haha!

A majority of the posters goes to the crew, I have a rather large collection of posters I keep in tubes in the basement from certain movies that tweak my intrest. I have some promotional Hobbit posters of Gandalf, Bilbo, Legolas & Thorin Oakenshield that are all in the Elvish language. I also have a mint condition "The Interview" poster (you know, that movie with Dave Franco & Seth Green that was never released in theatres due to Kim Jong Un threatening to wage war?). My favorite is my Metallica "Through the Never" IMAX poster. It's gigantic (4'x6')& made of rubberized canvas. I hope to one day have it signed by members of the band.

I've decided to push back going to CDL school until May so I can memorize the CDL manual cover to cover (the pre-trip inspection is a doozy) & build up my savings cushion incase things don't go quite as smoothly as expected.
