Perhaps I should clarify on the 1C1 that was sent to JB@VSS... he must have seen an M, but it is nothing like the M on the V-1C2. The 1C2 is also double clashed on the reverse. Please let us know what you find out after doing the necessary research ;)

The I number is the interest number given to the VAM as estimated by LVA at the time of discovery. I'm guessing that the actual interest may be higher now that the 1C is on the new WOW list. The same is true for the R number - the best estimate by LVA for the rarity at time of discovery.
The reason for my question regarding the number of Die clashes is that a single clash is likely to be the 1C1 die pairing (different obverse die than 1C2). There are some good photos on the 1C1 page to confirm the obverse die. http://www.vamworld.com/1883-O+VAM-1C1

It is the only one I have ever seen to show anything in that area aside from the plate photo

I was thinking my cherry pick of a EDS VAM1C1 was my luckiest pick. Now I'm wondering if the semi LDS 1C2 was a better pick.

I'm pretty sure that's the 1C1 obverse die. I can just make out the die polish lines in the hair curl when I enlarge the image.

Those EDS 1C1s are amazing because of the PL fields - really adds a nice effect on the buffed areas! The 1C1 EDS is quite a treat indeed, though the 1C2 LDS is much more rare.

so if you were listing this coin for sale how much would you ask? Found couple on e-bay that were MS62 and 63 for $199 to $219

I just cherry picked a PCGS MS62 1C1 for $48 but the pictures were terrible and it was not attributed.

$200 for a true VAM-1C2 seems good! I probably would not pay half that for a VAM-1C1 in the same grade though. I'd pay more than either of those for a VAM-1C3 in decent shape though.

True, but I would sure like a VLDS that falls between the example I have and that crazy 1C3. I was also dreaming about a VEDS 1C1 that has almost zero die sink. lol
Off to look at '83-O auctions.....

Used to have the top pop PCGS 64PL and it was very early with minimal sinking. Waiting on a PCGS 63DMPL to arrive now. In the auction photos I could see almost no sinking at all. Of course photos can hide/show a lot and cannot be trusted.
