$60 x 20,000 (mintage) = $1,2M

A true DUD.

Threshold for CAN NCLT is currently set at is $400k.

As pocket change stated, it seems like there's a following for these coins. Not my cup of tea and I personally can't see that many people interested in buying coin to celebrate the birth of their kid. But that being said, it's an affordable gift

What is the "DUD" here means?

If I bought the 2011 Welcome to the World for CAD60, and sold it for CAD 120, I would say "it was good coin".
The 2015-edition comes in the period of overflood of the coins, but it will do well most likely.

These sorts of issues will always be around for the customer who does not understand, or is interested in, the numismatic aftermarket. Their most common thought is to buy them as a treasured keepsake.

More profits the to RCM and their stakeholders: the Canadian taxpayer, who in general terms, also never gives any thought to this sort of product as an investment.

I'd think most of the buyers of "Welcome to the World" do so to honour the birth of a child by giving this as a baby gift to friends, relatives, or business associates. And not many parents of children would rush out to sell their child's baby gifts on the secondary coin market (or I'd sure hope not), so most of the limited stock that's available was probably unsold at the onset.

As sel points out, those buying RCM baby sets and coins aren't doing so as an investment --- for decades RCM products have been purchased as long lasting gifts, as opposed to other sorts of baby stuff that gets sent to the goodwill store after the child out grows the usefulness. I think baby gifts are one area where RCM serves the market very well. It's not about cost or value - it's the memories of who it was given by which can never be measured in dollars and cents.

With a birthrate of approx. 390k in 2015 only 1 out of 6 kids would be able to get such a coin. With collectors around the world buying these coins to complete their collection this ratio will increase to 1:10 or even worse. I think allthough expensive - this coin will be sold out within 3 months

this will not work in terms of the world, and even Canada-wide.
Some people will see in this the keepsake for the kids, some people - collectible items, but some will see only Silver content value or denomination. They will be wondered, why you gifting their newborn "cheap" $10 coin instead of gold bracelet etc.

As a collector of this series, I will tell you it is
difficult to get the 2011 ($4 Face value bilingual) and
especially hard to find the 2012 coins. The annual issue
is easy to get - when it is offered. I have my 2016
coin put aside at CP.

I realized early that people are Baby Crazy and
they will pay a premium for a coin that is sold out.
Just try to pick these up on the secondary market - tough
to get. I put alerts out for the 2012 coin. Baby silver
loonies, most sell well over issue. Even the Baby
quarters do well in the sets - Check 2011 ($129.95 at CA
- out of Stock), I have a 2013 Set that is going up in
value now, to pick this up for $20 was easy.

I think it was best said by Silveroid in an
earlier thread - these are mostly purchased by relatives
for new parents, or grandparents, and not flippers. They
hold them dear as a keepsake. Never to be sold. So when
one gets one they think - I want one for little Suzy born
in 2013. Hard to get, now. As time goes by, even
harder.

My CP had 2 of them - one on display and second in the storage (the owner told me, when I was curious), yesterday morning went to pick-up my 2016 50 cents roll, and noticed, that the 2016 Welcome to the World not on display any more - has been sold.

Might be series not really a "masterpiece", but the coins look great all together and as SilverDon said - hard to get with the years passing.

Bought mine back in January for my first Grandchild that was born on April 14, 2016.

My Son and his Wife love the coin, gave it to them last night, he was going to put it in his Curio Cabinet right beside the Goalie Coin set I got him for Christmas.

they thought it was really cool, something to commemorate the birth of their child with the year on it. They had never seen one like it before.

I can see why these coins sell out every year, nice little present that's different from the usual baby items.

Yes, the coin from he precious metal given for the child born, represents that the baby hasn't born without anything but with something material (except the mother and father love) to start his life.
Small keeper.

Same as RM annually distributes specially packaged "Sixpense coin" for the baby birth.

I can see these baby coins selling in many countries with a multiple of it's original price. The swiss coin sets for newborns is sold out every year and is sold on the secondary market between 1.5 to 8 times of the original cost.

No way to stand coin up inside box, flat bottom
COA is different with no personalized section for Baby name
Plastic outer wrapper

Just over 50% through the year and just under 80% sold. Just a matter of time till sell out.
Then wait 15-20 years and there will be a flood of these as kids cash these in to help cover the cost of living in the big city or school books. Just kidding. Hopefully my kid hangs onto it.
