Thank you for the quick response. I feel
kind of stupid here but this is the first time I've
heard of impaired proof. If you don't mind me asking
what is that?

Proof struck coins are specially minted and sold in sets to collectors. Business struck coins are the ones in circulation. What happened here is that someone 'liberated' a proof coin and put it into circulation. Because it has received typical circulation wear and damage, they call it an impaired proof.

Also the proofs get struck more than once, which can account for the Strike Doubling you're probably seeing.

Thank you Rackster...so basically it's not worth anything being in circulation?

Hey throw that coun out lol. I've been informed it's the
Lighting playing tricks the doubling is really not there and
we both used the same lighting lol. In other words you can't
really get an accurate opinion cause the magical lights we're
using is lying to us lol. So your pictures are no more accurate
as mine are. Sorry! It's to bad our lights didn't have the same
effect on a hundred dollar bill that would be wonderful :)

Maybe just a little. One question does it show a clad edge or a solid silver color?

Hi Mdnyte - my very first impaired proof was also a State Quarter like yours. I still have it although it isn't worth all that much. More of a point-in-time memory. Since then, I've found several impaired proofs - I have all of them and no real interest in parting with them. I have found duplicate impaired proofs for the same date. All nicely tucked into my collection. So it's really up to you. The information given by our fellow enthusiasts is correct; if you get anything it won't be very much for your impaired proof. And perhaps half the reason why I hold onto them. No real financial incentive to part with them. Good luck!

You can tell if it's really there or not by looking at the coin in hand; if it's really there, you can't make it disappear by slightly angling the coin.
