appears to be MD in extremely similar areas to the real thing if you look extremely closely there are some differences.

if you put them side by side you can see the differences

This one so similar like those 1969 with md

let's see what the experts say

If you had the DDO #1 the doubling would look exactly the same as on coppercoins. Notice your coin does not show anything on the 1, 0 , or second 9 of the date. With doubled dies it has to be the same, NOT kinda the same. Because it was the same die that had the doubling on it that made all the coins.

There were so few dies used to make the 1909 cents. I am pretty confident that all varieties have been identified by this point.

Looks like a normal coin with slight MD as mentioned. Here are A couple of image of the 001 to look at:

1909-VDB-WDDO-001-?
Note the hub doubling that enlarges the devices over all size.

was tryin gto make a small joke at the end nobody picked up on that hehe
nway I'm still quite new to this so I tend to go sherlock holmes on almost everything
and its not the first time I've read that there was a undiscoverd coin found somewhere in a hoard
just got my hopes up to high

@Coop
thank you Coop
i think I got the lesson come home

this is what trew me off

just the nose displacement and small gap on the tip
that trew me off thinking there was doubling on the head too

1909-VDB-WDDO-001-?

again thanks all
always valueable lesson the be learned here

probably a coin contact mark from another coin. If it were a chip on the die, then it would be raised. So most indentations on coins are PSD because of coin contact. (Some strike through happens)

I caught your joke. I am working and surfing at the same time so my mind is adrift. New discoveries happen all the time, but are generally newer issues or issues that had a lot of cooins minted for that year. I made a discovery of two new 1963 RPMs about 5 years ago. There were a lot of dies used in 1963.

There were only 27,995,000 1909 VDB minted, whereas 1963 there were 1,774,020,400 minted in Denver which is what the RPM was.

so this one is MD too and not a RPM?
because the S is smaller in size and shape it can't be a RPM?

thanks for bearing with me

Look at how flat it is. Also look at the Machine Doubling on the 1969. These are dead giveaways. You are starting to get the gist. You are no problem at all. I love helping those that really want to learn.

Note the MD on the mint mark is the same as the date. Just MD. Also note how the devices are reduced in size. The bottom loop of the mint mark is smaller than the top loop. Sure sign for Machine damage during the strike. (die movement caused the devices to be damaged) Nothing is doubled, just damaged in shape.
