After a discussion in a recent thread, I'd say a proof Standing Liberty quarter.
It's a beautiful detailed design, it would've looked great as a proof. It's even rumored that some were made. Yet, as far as I can tell, aside from a few pre-production patterns, none are known today.

How about a 1910 VDB cent? Some say they exist, and others have claimed to have owned one.

1917 proof SLQ.

From the Red Book...

Quote:
No proof coins of this type were officially, issued, but specimen strikings of the first variety, dated 1917, are known to exist.

1873-S No Arrows Seated Liberty half dollar. Mintage listed as 5k, but unknown in any collection. Would be cool to see one.

POP reports are very mis-leading. Just because the POP report has a coin with total POP at 30, doesn't mean that the coin is scarce or rare. Then again, if a certain coin is resubmitted (for better grade) or crossed over from another service, the POP is much higher than it should be.

I imagine somebody out there is sitting on a 1873-s NA Half and 1873-s Seated dollar. He or she just has them sitting in a big safe and maybe once every few years takes them out and examines them and thinks " darn it feels good to be a gangasta."

Would the 1959D LWC mule be eligible for this? I think that is one of the most contested coins with only 1 (allegedly) in existence. Or is the jury in on that one?

This is a pretty interesting topic. I could think of a few off of the top of my head..
-1909 D Lincoln Cent
-1922 P Lincoln Cent (not the no d, rather a cent actually struck in Philadelphia)
-1878 O Morgan dollar
-1815 Large Cent
-1930 D Standing Liberty quarter
-Proof Standing Liberty quarter
-1895 Morgan dollar Business strike.

The 1959 Wheat penny is in private hands to my knowledge and is still considered by the TPG to be fake. I have not heard news on it in a long time.

@georgescoins.
I believe there have been many rumors of 1922-P cents in the past but nothing has ever come of it.
