No, the thrill is gone, now that I look closer it`s just another case of monkey business as usual at the mint

This is probably the hardest set to complete, that the RCM puts out. I have friends in Vancouver and Winnipeg whom I trade tokens with. Still missing Winnipeg Year of Ram strike though... SPP- I can dig around and see if I can find the ones I picked up last year.... I managed to pick up 3... one I will keep for sure as it's also a "clip" error

Finally while doing a bit of re-organizing I found my tokens... Not too many but you'll notice the one with a slight partial clip.. I thought that was pretty cool... Also if anyone want to trade for a token I don't have please let me know.. I'd love to have a Monkey one from Vancouver.  |

Why 'strike your own tokens'?
The Royal Australian Mint had a facility for the customer strike his own coins at the Mint.
Put a two dollar coin into the slot operated press, and the customer was enabled to strike a mint fresh whatever is current One Dollar commemorative coin.
Started with the 1992 Barcelona Olympic commemorative dollar.
Market value for these now around $75 each. I struck a half dozen when I visited the Mint in that year, I still have them all.

Thought you'd like those SPP... I immediately thought of you when I found these tokens again... as I remembered you wanted to see pics of the clipped one....
When I went back the next year I couldn't convince the person working the press to let me even have a look at the rejects...
Hopefully I will be able to go again.. .it's a pretty fun family event my son and daughter really like going to the mint to see all the coins...

THIS IS THE REASON I WILL NEVER WORK AT THE MINT.... (I would be fired on my first shift!)  Took a blank  Made an off centre strike  off centre and 2x struck  took a clipped planchet and this one looks like it struck 3x  And then this one!! It looks like it was struck 3x .. two are really close but one is VERY far off... of course it's off centre AND clipped!  I waited in line for just under an hour and I think after this last one I was about to cause a riot from all the people behind me.. but who cares.. this was SOO much fun! Edited by AgCoinAu

I guess now I know who busted the machine at the Winnipeg mint during the RCNA a few years ago. |
