Quote: If you like a bit of colour with your SDs, the five enameled coins make for a nice set. (I'll take enameled over painted any day!)
Nice! I still need to find a 2005 to complete this set

@ Luc. Zombucks, the name says it. lol! And your set of specimen loonies is totally awesome, an interesting branch from traditional loonie collections.
@ SilverDon, what you say about silver dollars, year by year, I believe as well. Their current expensive price, particularly for special editions, is also one of the reasons why I've come to believe that NCLT issues which can be collected as part of a series or theme have a much greater likelihood of sustaining future collector interest and demand. Otherwise hot new releases just becomes overtaken by the next one and the next one....and in the frenzy of NCLT issues what's no longer "new" soon gets forgotten.
I have another small set, please ignore the fact I notice that I should have wiped the coin capsule prior to taking the pic.

Three - Green Four-Leaf CloverThis is to become a gift and RCMs sale of Floating Frames couldn't be better timed because my intention is to perhaps add a Silver Dollar for the birth year of the recipient (4th coin to equal number of leaves) plus a small childhood photo to balance the display. There's a personal significance behind the theme and in my opinion, unique creatives gifts with a symbolic meaning are far more fun to give. The set consists only of Green coloured clover, and although other mints have issued NCLT with gold coloured clover, but I chose to limit the possibilities to only green. 2016 - Canada 2015 - Palau 2014 - Niue Island, Poland mint

@wildflowerAB: Very nice clover set! Gifting a meaningful/personalized set of coins is always a great idea. @SilverDon: Thanks for sharing images of the "City" SD set. Too bad the RCM hasn't honoured additional cities. @lucv13: Thanks for sharing the "bird coins." I have a friend who also collects the specimen dollar bird series. As time allows, I'll try to post images of a few other mini-sets of SDs (and other coins) I have in my collection.

That's a really cool set Commens, and my gosh your photos are so clear and precise. I had no idea a $4 coin was even issued in commemoration of Cdn Heroes/War of 1812.

Funny you should mention that. While 4-leaf clovers are indeed considered a sign of Good Luck, it's memories of searching for them in the lawn that's most significant in my choice as well. When I was young also, my Mom, a couple of aunts, 4-leaf clover searching was a great pastime. I don't remember if I found any or if so, how many, but the searching was great fun to see who could find one first. I wonder what the reaction by people on the street would be now, if they noticed folks crawling around on their hands and knees in their front lawn? lol!

Set of Three Commemorative British Columbia DollarsThe Centennial of British Columbia becoming a colony 1858-1958, and the Centennial of British Columbia becoming a Province 1871-1971. With BC noted on the Reverse of each of these I thought it was a cool small subset. 1958 is .800 Silver, while 1971 was .500. The 1958 is a PL Strike, and the 1971 is a toned Specimen, in the 1970's, the packaging encouraged toning on the unprotected coins. The 1971 Nickel Proof Like Dollar was a bit smaller in diameter (32.13 mm). Retro Set of Three

@SilverDon: Nice pair of BC SDs. I also have a PL 1958 - I like the way the design really pops on the PL version of the coin.
As I'm sure you already know, you can turn your duo into a trio by adding the 1971 nickel dollar that also celebrated the centenary of British Columbia. It would no longer be exclusively a silver dollar set, but I've never known the two SDs you've listed to be so snobbish that they wouldn't welcome a brother by another metal!

Yes Commems, I thought about adding the nickel dollar from 1971 but the size difference of the nickel was not a match. But with the comment, "brother by another metal", I can't help but add it, I am within the 24 hours so see the edited trio. I also thought that this is the only province that has received such special treatment.

Thanks darryldarryl! Anyone have a Northern Lights collection? I've recently noticed the theme has been used more often in the past than I ever realized. I'm thinking it would also serve as an excellent illustration of how RCM's technology has evolved over time.

Set of Three Commemorative British Columbia Dollars
I can't help but be reminded of a cousin, the 1996 McIntish Apple SD. A very striking coin with it's intriguing finish and design ahead of its time, in my opinion Also a set of One, I don't recall apples ever gracing any other Cdn NCLT. *well maybe a shirttail relative? ......appears the McIntosh Apple was first introduced to Canada by John McIntosh in the area of the St Lawrence Valley.
