This is going with the 28 peace to NGC tomorrow or Saturday. The 28 is gonna have conservation. This gold I think will do well.

The luster would have to be very subdued for a 62 grade to be justified. Now 63 I could understand but not 62.

The picture is a little out of focus, so maybe it is hiding a lot more than I can see, but MS-62 seems really, really low for what the surfaces look like to me. How is the luster?

the luster was a bit weak but the surfaces were actually quite nice I was kinda shocked it was a 62....I may get a second opinion from my main coin dealer and see if it is worth the money cracking it out and sending it to PCGS.

62 seems a bit under graded, but they must have seen something we can't see in these photos.

The NGC graders must of thought that the piece has some surface disturbances in the fields. That would explain the low appearing MS-62 grade. Both services are very conservative when it comes to grading the $2.50 Liberty gold coins. I have one in a PCGS MS-63 holder that looks like an MS-65. I've never bothered to send it in for a re-grade because chances are it would be an MS-64, but that won't be worth the cost. The price between MS-63 and 64 for those coins is not enough to make a re-grade worthwhile. Here is my PCGS MS-63.   Edited by billjones

I took the liberty (no pun intended) of posting copies of the linked NGC photos below. My question is what is just above the tiara? A scratch or gouge? I still think it should be a 63 regardless.  |

It a very light scratch that is always highlighted when photographed but in hand it is very light and not noticeable.
