MS-65 Again, why the color? Maybe I have not seen one like this but, I do have a few Shield nickels. Not a higher grade as yours.

I'll say at least 66, with a good shot at 67. I can't really see any problems.

Think "coin made for collectors."

I think the coin is a proof. Details look very sharp and the fields seem to have a mirror-like surface. I'll guess PR-65 but it could be higher. I find proofs to be tough to grade from static photos because hairlines are sometimes only visible when the direction of light is just right.

At a first glance, I thought it was a proof, but now with Bill's hint, I'm sure of it.

My first thought it looked like a proof. No expert on the series so I'll say pf67 now

I immediately thought proof as soon as I saw it. The Byron Reed collection also has a 1881 proof Shield nickel in a similar grade with almost a cartwheel luster like yours. PR-66
