Now that I think of it, I do have some goals, but they're mostly fairly nebulous, and rarely written down (though this is not as much the case now that I have a Numista account). So I don't entirely fit in the "accumulator" category - but not really in the "collector" category either.
(I voted for "accumulator", incidentally, on residual memory from the other thread. But the more I think about it the more I feel I probably count as a "collector" too; perhaps it's actually closer.)

It depends on my mood. Mostly collector, sometimes accumulator, with moments of true 'numismatism'. But mostly I like to buy coins with a story behind them.

I think you can collect, accumulate or hoard coins (or most anything else) and STILL be quite mindful of investment potential.

I'd say I'm mostly a collector. But if you'd ask members of my family, they'd say I'm a hoarder. I usually do not purchase coins for future profit, but if the value does go up...I won't be complaining.

I'm almost 100% pure collector. On occasion I (try to) sell an item.
My wife has been told that I intend to die with my collection intact. She knows who to go to if she wishes to sell it off. That is, of course, AFTER I'm no longer around to contest that action.

I'm in between a collector and numismatist. I like doing research on my coins, but it is not priority number one. Perhaps that will change when I have more time.

Numismatist, the collector streak is strong as well, but I seldom acquire anything anymore (other than more books) because there isn't that much I still need so finding new items is difficult, and the few I do find I and rarely afford. But there are always new fields to study. Just last night I picked up a book on parking tokens, don't have a single one but I'm reading through the book and learning!

I am mainly a bullion collector of American Silver Eagles. I got lots and lots of them. I buy coins, but very rarely.

While I appreciate the conversation that began with my definitions, please note that those "pigeon hole" assignments are quite nebulous even within a self-assigned designation.
The main purpose of making such a listing is simply to allow any person interested in a particular field - in our case coins, currency and tokens (mostly)- to have some basis for such self-assignment.
I attend dozens of "local" coin auctions and while I do bid, my primary interest is to talk with others about what they collect (if they "collect"), how they started, if they have goals and what those goals might be, and so forth. Note also that most of these "collections" for sale at these auctions are almost always accumulations and even the best auctioneer well versed and experienced in these subjects has a hard time grouping the "stuff" into lots to make money.
Regardless of why or how you collect, at some point those coins, currency, or tokens are going to be sold. There may be a few who could not care less about what happens to their collections once they pass, but I've found that a far greater number respect the items they are care-takers for and do want them to be respected when it comes time for them to move on.
So my purpose in making those definitions is to allow each person to at least be aware that there might be such graduations, although I have emphasized one is NOT "better" than another.
I've attended those auctions when someone I've spent time talking with has come up to me with a beam of a smile and thrust his "new" want list in front of me. In every instance, they felt more "complete" in their enjoyment and told me so.
As in all things I strongly believe that if we know ourselves, in this case within our hobby, we have a much better idea about how we can enjoy every possible aspect of our travels.

I started off as a collector, realised that I was making poor investments and starting to hoard and so I became more of an informed collector who has a bit more concern for investment potential.
I am no longer adding to my coins/notes. I finished my English banknotes collection and my ancient coin collection and will defer finishing my USA banknote collection till a later date (when financial situation and exchange rate is more favourable) Also I have been side tracked by some other collecting fields.
I agree with Moxking above that we are just caretakers, and while I am not about to open a museum I try to document, research and catalogue every piece I own of any interest whether it be watches, guitars, numismatic, silverware or militaria.
