No rim is a tale tale sign it was sanded down. An electric Sander with 220 grit then circulated till you found it.If you weigh it, you will find it's underweight.
It was damaged after it left the mint

Welcome. Looks like It's just a well worn coin. Being passed around in circulation for decades can cause all detail to deteriorate.

Hi Heidi,

I agree with the others: damaged by someone with time to burn sanding down a nickel. Net worth: $0.05.

Check out our forum on photography for tips that will help you take better shots for folks here to help you with a diagnosis. The better the picture, the faster and more accurate we can be.

Have fun in the forums!

I have a Liberty nickel that is completely blank on both sides from circulation. If you look on ebay at circulated Liberty nickels, you will see hundreds of them nearly worn flat, the rim and all. Jefferson nickels haven't been around as long as Liberty nickels yet, but as the years pass I'm sure we'll see them wear flat also.

To me it looks altered. If it were circulation wear, we would see a lot more that look like this out there, but there isn't any. So I feel it is PSD. Spendable.

I see a date, but the small out of focus image makes it so you can't even guess what it is.
