And for a second there I thought I had stumbled upon something all you pro's had missed! Not really, but I did wonder what was going on, so thank you for that info.

The difference between wide and close is obvious when the two are compared. If it is a case of "almost touching" that is usually the result of die polishing that removes some of the fine detail but die polishing would not turn a Close AM into a Wide AM. Also, you cannot compare coins of different eras due to die changes through the years, generally the differences you will see can be perfectly explained by die changes. Always compare coins from the same year when trying to determine if something is out of the ordinary. |

That's a good tip- makes perfect sense. Back to my mole hill of pennies! Is there a 'list' of just penny errors I can find somewhere? This will be a fun weekend project!

on what I found out its the Close AM in this year is high value.also very hard to find book value is 300.00(proof back) Edited by toniblab

The last post implies that there is a 1982 Close AM to be looked for. There is no such thing. Thanks, Bill |

the coin books and mag have to get there act together and stop giving out bad info on off dates and other coin problems.

They might be confusing the large/small dates for 1982 also the copper/zinc cents made. That makes 7 different coins for that year. Mixing that with the Wide A M and Close AM? |

I thought we started looking for Close AM between 92 and 94..then Wide AM commencing 95? |

Make that 1992 for the Close AM and 1998,1999 (Proof coins from this year look for the Close AM),2000 for the wide A M. The proof 1993 is a Close AM on all dies. Then in 1994 the proof pattern was the wide A M. I think thats all correct. Now if anyone can understand it? |

Coop, for 1982, there are 8...everyone forgets the proof edition. 7 circulation strikes yes...but 8 different pieces for a full set of 1982 cents.

Here is the general idea of what to look for. 1992 Close AM ( Wide AM is normal) 1993 Wide AM ( Close AM is normal) 1998, 99, 2000, Wide AM ( Close AM is normal) I personally check 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1997 cents as well as cents dated after 2000 for Wide AM ( Close AM is normal) to see if I can discover something new. None have been found on these as far as I know. Thanks, Bill |
