It has turned out to be a pity that this one was graded.
I agree that the amount of cleaning (if any), is negligible.
"Cleaning details" in this case unfairly detracts from it's value.

As long as you like the coin that's all that really counts.
I have a Canberra Florin that has been polished in a PCGS slab and even though it has been polished and ruined numismatically it has a great strike an it is not unpleasant to look at.

I'd crack it and resubmit to NGC. This looks super to me.

I see no reason by those photos for a 'cleaned' verdict ... do not even see the light hairlines that you describe on the reverse.

No clue why?

I don't know much about Peace dollars but I believe this is the highly sort after high relief 1921 . I too cannot understand why this would be a details ( cleaned coin ).

You can see natural tone at the base of the rays on the reverse, and at the base of the crown spines on the obverse.

But it's a nice strike on the hair. Here's as close as I've gotten to a full strike 1921.

Same coin, with crosslighting to see the hair detail.

I've yet to see one where that little dagger of hair down on the cheek is full....yet I've seen MS65's that are so flat struck that it isn't even visible.

The OP's coin is gorgeous! The luster looks weird on the face (maybe the source of the "cleaning"?), but other than that, she is a perfect type coin. Had I the money, she'd be mine in an instant, especially at a "details" price.

I'm thinking the coin has been overly dipped and stripped. Not that there would be any hairlines visible... just a lackluster, yet "shiny" appearance is what I'm seeing.

Has it been wiped perhaps?

So in hand, it doesn't look quite as good as the original pictures. The only way I can describe it , the luster looks a little "flat" on the observe. With that said, I think that is a characteristic of the 1921 Peace dollar in general. I have seen many of them in straight grade holders with a very similar look so I am still confused on if this is truly "cleaned."

Perhaps this was dipped one too many times? Under 10x magnification, there are absolutely no signs of hairline cleaning marks. Based on my new pictures would it be worth sending in to grade one day? Unfortunately I'm not a member so I can't send in to NGC or PCGS so even if I submitted it for grading it would likely be a long time.

Any additional thoughts on the grade (if it's truly "details" or not) and if it would be worth re-submitting someday would be appreciated. Thanks!

Still looks like a pretty nice coin with a superior strike. Evidence of cleaning is not at all obvious and I think it could come back with a straight grade if resubmitted.

No, just indicative of being overdipped.

I saw another 1921 that looked almost identical (minus the hit under the eye) and it graded MS62 in a yellow ANACS holder. It also had that kind of flat luster look on the observe. If I did resubmit this one I would only want to to go NGC or PCGS though. What do you think my chances of getting a straight grade are? Is it 50/50? Is NGC or PCGS more leinant on dipped coins? I was kind of hoping slider would chime in as I know he is knowledgeable on Peace dollars. Thanks everyone!
