This "clash" under the eagles beak, is not one always seen, how ever it is well know do to the "CLASHING" overlays as presented above..... However.....in the case of the 1883-0......."E CLASH" it is a reality of the clashing lasted from the time the E# was VISABLEY present....and yhe time after the die was repolished the E diassapeared....NOTE that the die cracks are present when the E clash is known......and the die cracks are still present after the re-tooling, BUT NO E is found... NONE of your pictures looks or shows close ups for the E CLASH area. to determine if there is an E clash present or not....Truthfully this is the true evaluation if it it a 36A The Vams progression went from the VAM 36, to the "E clash" of VAM 36A, then to... after re-tooling it reverted to the VAM 36..as the E clash is not present...... The descive point where the progression starts and ends lies within the die crack that goes from the tail feathers though the "O" mint mark..... when the crack is obvious,,but does not go entirely from tail feather through the mint mark and back up into the tail feather much like a you as can be seen on VAM world...THE E CLASH can be present.......in any even if not seen it is a VAM 36, and not an VAM 36A,,,so we now look to your close ups of the mint mark and the area just left and down of the mint mark to see if the E clash is present.....GHood luck! The strong clashing above the cap should be indicative of an E clash on the reverse, though not always.. the clashing above the cap can be seen even on later die states when the E has been gone for some time. Based also on the extent of the reverse crack above the MM, I would guess 36a... as the coin reverts back to a v36 or onward, the crack becomes very extensive.. CHECK for that E!

Picture 3 (the one with the clashing above cap) looks like you MAY wish to at least check the 1883o VAM 1H listing. The reverse doesn't looks quite as cracked up as the 1H, but it's hard to tell by the pictures.

I must say.. and not to be negative..... but there is not one picture here...... of the E CLASH.... area to even begin to think this coin is an E CLASH coin....for VAM 36, to the clash...and then to the polishing where the E# clash was removed.... ONE CAN NOT SAY THIS IS VAM 36A at this point.....HUMM....lets see some pic's...

Understood aladinslamp.. however, I take back my statement about the reverse not looking to be cracked up like the v1H, but that is because I was focusing on the mint mark since photos were limited. Then I noticed the one with extensive cracking on the reverse letters AME, which leads me to believe this may be V1H after all. Agree? Neither VAM listing on VAMworld for the v36 or 36a show cracking as distinct as this.

Just a reminder.. , Vamming is very cool... but it does take some understanding...and much patience.... OR.....you will certainly jump to comclusions.....that are not correct.....The VAM WORLD GUIDE 101....IS extremely important info.. for one to know how to navigate the VAM's of this world.....points that make a VAM attributable... Verses those points that can be seen that are not attributable for a VAM number..... For instance..."one mighty" CLASH ....is the due to the die rotation...truely seen on the revers, and can be a strong clash... between the wing into the "N" of the word IN.. it's placement is due to die rotation... it's placement means weather it's to the left or to the right or in the middle of the word "IN" for the reverse motto of in god we trust....there are at times when the die rotations is so significant that the overlay now shows the reverse clashing actually.. is now seen within the "G" letter on the reverse motto... ......Ok if I am getting to far past you just say so..... but these are the fundamentals of vamming....Die rotation plays an important part of all of this,, But for starters...Many.....forget the basic simple rules.. If you want to learn.... Of VAM's.....start by the simple RULES.... First.... date placement.......normal......near or far... AMAZING such, simple info cuts you querry in half... "O" I forgot....the reverse mint mark position....Its's listed every every ware................HUMMM

Sorry, I just came to this site to learn a little more about VAMs.. I do understand everything that you are saying, and know that I am kind of going out on a limb with this attribution... but I was merely trying to assist in attribution, not give my own.. just trying to offer my opinion to help chuckster out, even though now I realize it's an ancient thread. I know a little about the v36 progression, which is the only reason I thought to offer help with this one. I have one v36a and a later die state v36a I am borrowing currently, and I guess I was sort of basing my opinions on comparison... didn't even take grade into account.. oh well, I apologize. No offense taken, and no offense meant. Thanks for the experience! I recognize the name from VW... you frequent?

With all that said, it's good to have another Vammer on this site. I have only really been at it for about year myself, but share the enthusiasm.

I was frequent for some years, not so many as the immortals there.. but there is such wisdom from those who would share... and they are great people, but don't think as a newbie you can as about a rare coin and get a direct answer/// as there are many who would rather take the knowledge..FOR PROFIT...... PROFIT.......Means if you can have some one figure out what you have...FOR YOU.......you can cash in........ but t hats not what Vamming is about, but there are those how would ask """ """""US"""""""" for any profit.....rare as it is.....but the same... Such as it is...... there will be those like us that still wonder to understand the error process , the hows and the whys..... there is still some honesty within us and shared between us...... Gene

Glad to join all you fine folks... hopefully I may be able to offer assistance at times.
Aladinslamp: I hope your issues with VW are resolved... got a message from you the other day on accident I believe, but it would be a real shame to not be able to use VW to its' fullest.. I've come here as a secondary.. Seems you can never get ENOUGH information on these coins! I would have messaged you, but if there is a message system on this site I do not know how to use it.
Nice to meet y'all folks.

I KEEP getting hit's...Of some trouble I am having with VAM World? I Never Left...however I you looked to my posts hear for the Past 2 years....its been under Photagraphy.... \Some under vamming....If most of you don't already know it, VAM World is the best site "With Pictures" of these Vams... Its a great dictionary from with I have examined and talk with those Great people who have helped me tremendously... I have always valued there friendship from whom, I beleive have been at the top of the forum....as well as the many many friends who are not the top dealers but people like you and me... Willing to share the knowledge of attribution.......the study of the Morgan and what makes vamming understood BEYOUND the ATTRIBUTION 101 guide for those who know of this guide......and its importance... I will have to write Rob Royce to figure out what this is all about..... As for Vamming, Its about collecting something special beyond the normal for ANY YEAR...of mintage.....I personally Am not a top 100/50 or any of the above, collector....Any and all of the above could be in my collection if they happen to be found within the coins I do hold, But I do not seek to buy them as those with a PCGS collection or Vamming "SET" AS mentioned the 1978-P series is over 230 items withing this years set...I never did have ANY DEEP POCKETS To play such a game with them and there money....I do enjoy what I have found, cool vams and just great coins, as MY first coin in the early 60's was the Morgan dollar.... DO you really know what COOL was back then? ME..... a kid,. in a PENNY candy store....... With a Dollar...... Gene
