Haha, COOL! The fact that you did this is great, but the follow up and analysis is the best part. GOod stuff. Inspiring, really. I'm gonna do this! Record and report my findings in a given time period, I mean. I already pick up anything I even THINK looks like it could be worth anything or at the very least interesting. Only fools throw money away like that. And boy, there sure are a lot of first class fools out there.

I pick up coins all the time, especially pennies. I just never thought to keep track!

Sounds like you did pretty well, please let us know what coin you decide to buy with your found money.

I pick up coins from the ground as well, but no way have I found that much. Bummer for me. Guess I need to look harder. Question? How did you go about finding change at the McDonald's drive through? I would guess that is where you found most of this?

Thanks

I may find a penny or two a day, but to find (on average) 21 cents a day is awesome!

I pick up about a buck a week average. Back when I was young married and poor this was my Christmas money.

If you really want to see what people drop, buy a mteal detector. I bought one about 3 weeks ago. Since then I have found over $35.00 in coins. I go searching for about 30 min on my lunch break, and then about an hour after work. It pays for the gas for my work commute, but I just do it for the exercise. I can't walk five feet through a park without finding a coin.

Actually, any drive thru will work. I park and walk in. By parking in the back, I get exercise and I can walk by the drive-up window. The best coins are always under the window proper, but even out in the drive next to the lane holds coins. My best pickup was at a burger King, $1.17. we also had two hits on Coin Stars where we got over $2.00.

I also pick up about a buck a week....or more. There is always so much change that gets dropped at my store and everyone hates cents in their change so they throw it around. Kinda odd.

What a haul Jim!

Here's my biggest find story:

Walking to class when I was in college. Cut through a back building parking lot and what do I see? Looks like an odd piece of paper. I pick it up and it's a 20 Deutch mark bill. Walk a few more feet and spot a couple more...like another 20 and a 10 mark. I stop and scan the lot...OMG...they were EVERYWHERE! I ran around frantically picking them up until the area was clear. I ended up with a nice stack!

I looked around for a possible owner, but there was absolutely NOBODY in sight and I even walked around a few minutes hoping to see somebody looking for their lost money, I would have gladly returned it to them. Finders keepers I guess!

I don't recall how many there were, but I went straight to a bank just a few blocks away and they exchanged them for $165 US. How the heck could somebody have let that much cash just blow into the wind?

I pick up some money during the course of a year. It probably wouldn't total $5.00 in a year. I wonder what I am doing wrong?

Another good place to check is when at a convience store and the candy is right under the counter where you pay. People drop coins off the counter and they land in the candy bar boxes. I have found tons of coins this way. I even have the kids looking there now
