I'm not a Jefferson grader either, Thulium. My estimated grade is nothing more than a WAG.

It'd be pushing it to say a 40, too much wear on the high areas, hair,Monticello.
So I'm now looking at certified coins on Heritage. From what I see on a slew of certified VF20-30 grades, no pediment outline remains(that triangular portion on Monticello) . I do appreciate all the grading opinions, but I'm seeing more detail on Monticello than dictated by VF grades.

To show you what I'm seeing--here's a run down on pediment detail by grade--from certified coins. The coins I've selected are averages of what I saw and roughly match the pictures on Photograde.

VF20

Back to the coin in question. Since I'm seeing a pediment outline and window detail, I suspect in-hand it will grade better. I'll post good pictures when it arrives--thanks again!

That vf20 example looks as if it has an RPM.

Yep--I believe it's a D/D on the holder.

Thulium, according to your posted pix, I stand by my first response, VF-35, would be a push to get 40. Loss of detail on Monticello brings it down half a grade.

also, takes both sides, the front is a 30-35, so even if the back is 35-40, combined total = VF-35

Crazyb0 That's fine--I respect your opinion. On further analysis using Photograde, I suspect the coin will present more details when it arrives.

One last thing--details I noticed in the obverse. Overall, the coin shows well-defined rims/legends, is relatively free of knocks and I suspect luster remains in protected areas. Now, compared to obverses from Photograde, this coin has some mice hairline details.

But we'll see what it grades in-hand.

I'll be waiting too, curious. Without the coin in hand isn't easy to grade. Yours is a whole lot better than my best, for sure, do like the letter details and clean fields!

I'm no expert here for sure, but somehow this coin just doesn't say "EF" to me.
