VG08 details. Hard to put actual value on details coin but maybe around $900 - $1000?

That's the color according to seller.
It's actually in a details free holder. It's straight graded

I could see it making VG10. VG8 sounds better though. Without knowing the variety I'd say $1,000 would be a fair price assuming the eye appeal is better in-hand than these (scans?).

I am also looking for a bust $. Although the price may seem attractive, I think the reverse has too many problems. It is tough to find a nice one that shows great detail but I would say to be patient. Below is an example of a VG08 draped bust. Even if you have to pay more, I recommend you get one you really like, otherwise you will always want to get rid of it for another. The coin is the PCGS plate coin for vg08. 2nd one looks much better. I would hold hold out for better, but you'll have to decide what's right for you. Good luck! I would not consider the second coin because of those spots (lines). The first coin should not be over $1,000 IMO. That is the top price I would pay for it or keep looking beyond these two pieces. |

I would give more consideration to the second one. It has better eye appeal and some more natural color.
As an aside, I must say that I am astonished at the price of these well worn coins. Back in the 1970s and '80s, you almost never saw a Bust Dollar offered in grades below VF-20. I remember when a dealer pulled out one to offer to one of my coin buddies who was looking for an inexpensive example. The coin was a VG with some issues, and the price was $75.
I believe that you should get on the "Coin Facts" page at look at the many pictures they have there of lower grade Bust Dollars. Not all of these coins are the same. There are ugly ones and attractive ones. You should hold on to your money until you see an example that has a nice look to it. Don't buy the first one that comes along just because it's there. Shopping for coins on the lower end of the scale is the same as looking for higher grade pieces. Coins with the same number grade are not the same on older items like this. Don't be afraid to pay a hundred or two more for something that looks nice without problems. In the long run you will be glad you did.
