Mitchell, first of all thanks for your comment. I myself am an error collector of sorts, constantly learning. Most of the time I try to give a more complete answer to a newbie's question of hitting "the big one, even utilizing Coop's pix and thread referenced...when I have time to do so. Otherwise I may like John1 just say "Nope, PMD" and move on. There is no malice intended. Also I reitterate the previous postings RE: please post an example of where you were offended. Searching your most recent post, none found...? The "regulars" on this forum are used to one another, antics and all. I have even noted to the forum Moderators, posts that are inappropriate or bothersome(lower right w/in post), you too can do that. Hope you stick around and get to know us all better, like I tell my grandkids, "grow some skin, people aren't out to get you all the time, everybody ain't like you". You gotta get to know one another, that's true diversity!

Error collecting through CRHing generally won't make you rich, I did try that...where's the buyers? through coin roll hunting you find DDO,DDR, & RPM frequently, those I collect for my personal satisfaction. After failing miserably at selling these (even the auction house I'd consigned to sent most back), I've resorted to having to give away my extras. What I look for anymore to SELL, are off-centers, mistrikes, large cuds/visible cracks...30K LWC, 750K LMC, 98K+ JEFF 5c later...0 have been removed from circulation. If you want to find a big one, are you dedicated enough?

I challenge you...you be one of the ones who find a special one of a kind error, then post it here and see what happens, what our responses will be. Not long ago, I was proven mightily wrong...again(see signature), when a forum member came across the first 1982D small date COPPER ever found, then later certified, all with help and support of forum members. For example, here's what happened to me the other day:
http://goccf.com/t/289730

Can you see it in the pile, quite literally a hodgepodge mix of junk coins, got for &7.50.

Not US coin, but it was an estate auction, seem to have good luck on these, more "unsearched" it seems...

All I can say is I have never received a rude answer from any forum member . I have had nothing but good informed honest answers even when that's not what I wanted to hear . The veterans on this forum know more about coins than the us mint in my honest opinion and I appreciate every one of them sharing that library of knowledge with me. When I post something on here I don't want someone to baby me and let me believe I have something I don't I want truth and these folks will even explain the answer and if it's something they are not 100% sure of they will send the link to Mike diamond or coop for you. I appreciate every bit of knowledge shared on here. It's knowledge you won't find anywhere else. And I thank each and every one of you for it.

Well I have posted quite a few coins that I have found along the way. Every response was genuine. Sometimes I haven't liked the answer ( PMD), but the members were always polite when addressing my coin. They have also congratulated me when I had a good coin to share. I have seen times when someone posts a coin asking for feedback & then want's to argue with the experts that they asked advice from. People don't like to hear that the super rare coin they just found is just a parking lot damaged ( PMD) coin that's only worth face value, but I feel that the members here break the bad news as nicely as possible.

Well put Mitchell.I know what you mean. I have had the same thoughts on some responses. They could be discouraging to some of the novice and pocket change circulation collectors. Not every collector is in for the investment ,hoping to make money on their collection later.

what I see with those that kind of agree with the original post, it's what's going on with the younger generation that don't want to be told the right answer (not always right) but a 1/2 truth. it's black or white it's ether a error or not, it doesn't have to be trophies for winners and looser. sometimes truth hearts, but it's the only way to learn. I had happened to me many times but I learned from them. I thank you all the family respondents that take the time to answer

Mitchell,
Tens of Thousands of us "vets" spend hours (that add up to DAYS and months and years) posting on other peoples threads about coins...but we enjoy it. I can't believe you feel the way you have described in the above post. Please post links to the topics you are seeing! Do you know how many of us congratulate others at their succes?

I have posted at other forums some of my coins I was questioning. Maybe they wanted to be "nice" and to not let me down, but they said that it probably was the rare variety I thought my coin was. CCF told me otherwise. I spent A LOT of money to grade the coin. CCF was correct. It was not the rare variety I thought.

Mitchell, I'm sorry, but this thread is just post forum damage.

this works much better than:

Mitchell! You got skunked!

I've seen threads with all of the posters agreeing that the coin in question was counterfeit. Maybe all of the posters 'piling on' may seem over-kill, But it is giving a clear consensus from the spurts.

I try to curtail my humorous bent when dealing with new members. I still like to ask if they have ever been incarcerated.

I understand what Mitchell is saying. I'm pretty sure we all do, but this is free collectors forum, there will always be responses that sound like they start with the implied, "Hey idiot......." or "I can't believe you didn't know....." but as far as forums go this one is as nice as it gets. I'm not sure you could name another forum that with nicer members. I hate reading posts where you know someone thinks they found a valuable coin and they learn is only worth face value. But the most important thing is they learn.
That being said it would be nice to see someone get encouragement when they learn their coin isn't what they thought it was.

One time I told COOP to lie to me, if the coin I posted was MD. Coin collectors are all a bit whimsical and its great to add that, to this type of stuff every once in a while.

When I see a new member for their first post show a coin from an estate sale, or Grandpa's stash from 90 years ago and it contains modern Chinese counterfeits, I tend to curb my natural instincts to call them out for either trolling or looking to scam someone. If it happened on Facebook, I'd be a lot ruder.

I have to agree with uruman to a degree (I am not sure it is just with the younger generation). Being told you're wrong or a coin isn't what you think does not need to be softened up or made to be politically correct. Apparently I am one of those you are talking about because I did roll my eyes and sigh when I read your post.

Members with traits like you describe would be dealt with my the moderators and other members here pretty quickly.

I disagree completely! Not once have I seen or felt any response being remotely close to this nature!

Chase- maybe the way I put it was a bit rough, here is a link to a post with an example of what I meant........
It's not rude or mean but due to the short nature it could be taken as abrupt.
The main point of my post was to say that people on this forum are great and more helpful than any other forum I have ever been a part of. The first post I made here, I think 6 or 8 people said welcome to CoinCommunity to me.

I find allowing the collector to see what I see, I sometimes take a lot of time to help see exactly what I see. That way when they find another coin like that, they will know what it is. Also it trains others to answer when I'm not here. I love it when I see other teachers using my images and able to explain what I saw. It helps to know rather than be told a yes or no answer. (no explanation as what to look for provided) All will learn here from the coverage of what we see on their coin.
