I still believe talking to Winnipeg that only the central coin centers of each major bank in that area can only place coin orders, take Walmart, who ever their bank of choice would be sending out coinage through their choice of armoured service. If Brinks can order it still shows the fault in the system of trying to get these 150 coins out to the general public without paying dealer pricing.

I'd be curious, has anyone asked employees at places like Walmart, Superstore or fast food restaurants how often they see 2017 circulation coin in their till? If the Finance Dept wants it in the hands of the general public, my thought is that's where the bulk of cash transactions occur. On the topic of Brinks as a RCM coin supplier to retail outlets, according to the following news article, the two have a close working relationship. Retirement gifts to retiring Mint CEO breached conflict rules "In a report released on Thursday, Dawson concluded that both the dinner and the miniature ship - whose real-life inspiration is represented on the Canadian dime - "might reasonably be seen to have been given to influence (Bennett) in the exercise of his official functions," as both were accepted "in the context of an ongoing business relationship" - and specifically, one that included contracts between Brinks and the mint." http://ottawacitizen.com/news/polit...nflict-rules

Well, I can say about Shoppers Drug Mart (Pharmaprix in Quebec) - they received quarters and toomies about four weeks ago as a part of regular change supply though I don't know if they receive it through the local bank or directly through Brinks. I kind of hoped that there should be more of those coins available today (Canada day) in Ottawa but didn't hear anything yet. Have a couple of local friends looking for them for me - will see later.

What I have found out about this area is the store asks the bank for xxx # of $$, the bank than get Brinks to send the the money to the store, so you have to find a store that brinks has delivered new coins to.

Personally, I really like the gitd toonie. However I am not a big fan of the quarter. The toonie seem to be generating some interest with the "non collecting" public.

I was in the Okanagan on holidays recently and none of the banks I checked had any of the toonie rolls which contain the glow in the dark coin. One bank had a coloured toonie in loose change. It seems that whatever amount the mint has put into circulation has been scooped up.

I'm always curious what "economic theory" is behind this notion of minting circulation currency that does not circulate.

I have been checking for weeks and none of the banks have any on hand. I honestly believe that the tellers are taking them as soon as they come in. Every teller knows that they are when I ask for them.

I don't regret buying the overpriced colourful display sets of 2017 clt, but am drawing the line at paying over fv for a roll of bank coins. The reason I draw it at this point is there is no reason I shouldn't be able to find it. I'm not overseas or a shutin. My country, my coins.....makes one think about why we call it "currency" in the first place.
