So, I did end up winning it while I was asleep. Last night I made a comparison pic of the one I purchased (assured by the seller to be as pictured) and another 1955 proof from the same seller. So, same photo setup and a similar shot angle. This is why the one I asked about (left) stood out so much: I also noticed that the lettering looks a little thinner on the left coin, giving credence to it being struck with an earlier state die and, thus, being cameo. Maybe? Anyway, I know this isn't earth-shattering but I'll update when I receive the coin.

I firmly believe that those are 2 Nickels are different from each other . The one on the right is called a Brilliant Proof . The one on the left sure does look like a Cameo.

Congrats! I watched the auctions and looked them all over, every date they had LOL. I knew you would be on that nickel ( rooting for you all the time ) and I think you will be pleasantly surprised when it arrives. Nice cherry pick. That's the way to do it. Looks like an excellent source for singles, hope you get the right one in the mail.

If it's not a Cameo, it's darn close. Hope it looks as nice, or better, in hand.

Yikes, that is an ugly coin. Yes, do try a return and say not as described. The seller has to pay the return shipping.

Yeah, I think I would ask for a better coin. It is deceptive selling. I was fooled myself, don't feel bad. They took even more deceptive images than you could re-create. Make sure it isn't a tripled die reverse.

Update: I got a refund and got to keep the coin as well! So, of course, positive feedback was left as that's how I would have handled it as a seller. I will still avoid that seller for the misleading photography but, it turned out well with those massive bucks on the line. So, the search continues for a better example.

Quote: positive feedback was left Why leave positive feedback? I definitely do not agree that positive feedback was warranted. that to me is at best a neutral feedback or even negative feedback situation. the picture did not show the coin in an accurate representation. leaving positive feedback leaves the door open for other to be deceived.

Quote: Why leave positive feedback? Because the matter was handled professionally in the correct way. Like I said, it's how I would have handled it. I don't feel I can honestly leave neutral or negative feedback when I received a full refund including shipping costs and kept the coin. Also of note is that the listing description said this: Quote: This coin is not a choice or gem it could / will have flaws and due to the mirror surfaces all blemishes may not be visible in pictures. I admit the pictures were deceiving in my case but, I can't speak for anything else they are selling or have sold. I'm not going to be every ebay buyer's big brother. I did mention there was an issue in the feedback I left. Plus, I'm a nice guy.

Quote:There's too many jerks in the world as it is. Agreed. As I get further back into Jefferson proofs, there will be more money on the line so, things may be approached differently. $4.50 total for a 1955 cameo proof is cheap and was worth the risk. If I had chosen, I could have opened an official return request. This is a good example of why you should always contact the seller first before opening a return or case. A lot of time and trouble was saved. When I commit to a '54 proof for $20+ or a '53 for $40+, then the return option is more feasible and necessary.
