On that list of coins, the 1914 $5 MS62 sold for US$ 995 or CDN$ 1200. For a MS63 the price would be even higher. Remember issue price was $500. And for the dealer to offer only $355 for a coin that could easily fetch over $1000 is outrageous. The dealer is taking advantage of someone who he thinks knows nothing of coins. The 1914 $5 gold is a scarce coin reflected in only 4 of them listed for sale on ebay. MS 62 - $1657 MS 63 - $3125 M2 63 - $2500 MS 63 - $2395

Taking the more desirable coins aside, I don't know of many dealers that would pay much of a premium above melt for 63 and lower coins (And no I'm not the dealer in question). There is a big difference of what people ask for their coins on ebay (or other means) vs what they actually sell for. IMO this series is still over priced. The prices at the June RCNA auction were high. Which is perplexing since most could be found significantly cheaper. Too many coins IMO. The rising price of gold will eventually chew the higher grades up. This is only PCGS and does not include NGC/ICCS or RCM holders.

Personally, I'd prefer a coin in the RCM box, ungraded over a graded coin in the same condition.

Is the pricing guide in the link posted by Torgemco accurate?

MS63 = melt value. and the dealer still has to make something off it

So $470 Canadian with shipping is the current price for a 1912 in ms-61 condition currently on ebay. One would assume that a 1914 with 1/5th the mintage of the one in the listing in ms-63 instead of ms-61 condition would fetch a fair bit more than melt.

Quote: Is the pricing guide in the link posted by Torgemco accurate? It is not a pricing guide, rather it is the sell prices for the coins. Should you decide to buy one of the coins that is what you will pay. Should you decide to sell you probably get 50% of those prices.

Even at 50%, these prices are far higher than melt. I'd like to think a century old (1914) Canadian $5 gold in ms-63 or even lower grades should hold a decent premium over melt.

Great collection. I would keep them. Great history behind the coins. The hand selected $10 ones are still available online at $1750.00 CAD. You can judge, what you should be getting from that price. No matter how cool these coins are, they are still found for sale online easily and often. https://www.cdncoin.com/product-p/623932046252.htmI think 5k is a reasonable estimate to shoot for on the LOT. Heritage Auctions has a software were you can download your coins and ask for an appraisal.

Last fall I paid US$3200 for a set in a Capital Plastics holder. I would grade the coins in my set as low mint state, ~MS 60/61. I love these coins, I have a few others in PCGS holders. If I lived in the TO area, I'd be knocking at your door with cash!
