Thanks Mike! Will keep this posted soon. Youve helped me a bunch as it is so no worries at all! They are a tough type to grade. Your example is absolutely phenomenal so tough to find them with color. I can only hope to find an slq as nice as yours!

Coin came today. Mike F was dead on with the reds and toning. What do you guys think? Is she a keeper?

Jeesh... I didn't realize it was a raw coin. The toning looks real and pretty to me but you always run the risk of it coming back as AT. It's really hard to tell without viewing it in hand. Depends on what you paid for it and if the seller makes a habit of cracking out or creating AT coins. I would send it in for grading if you have a 30 day return window.

I should also note that these pics were taken under direct light/tilted to show surfaces. Dead on, the toning isn't very apparent

Sure. I also loaded a video to youtube to show the coin in hand. I'm not good at taking pictures of coins even with the iphone's great camera. The seller has lots of coins and no red flags in my eyes but you never know

Make sure to select the highest quality before playing the video. Looks crystal clear on my phone but the std. quality on youtube is poor.

Looks naturally toned to me! Just showing everyone in case it may help/serve as a reference for future grading. It is a subtle toning nothing crazy. I think I made out well for AU. I appreciate all the help as always!

The seller's pics must have been taken in the dark. Your pics make it look totally different. For $160 it sounds like a good deal.

When the coin is held straight, it is similar to the seller pics just not as dark. The toning and shine is only seen in direct light when you tilt and rotate it. Do you guys still grade it AU? Down the line if I decide to slab my type set, Ill prob get it graded.

Believe or not, and I never would have thought this from the initial photos, it might go as AU details. Either AT or cleaned/retoned are possible. Either way it should make AU50 and seems like a fair deal for $160.

I agree BH. The best way to arm yourself with knowledge on toned coins is to accumulate a collection of graded examples for reference. That's what I do and it's led to some sweet raw coin acquisitions.

I think this one will grade straight.
